the story of the pitohui

in the late 80s in new guinea a man named jack dumbacher discovered that three species of birds called pitohui were actually poisonous to eat..........

story goes, a bratty hooded pitohui scratched and bit when dumbacher took him out of the mist net to be banded, dumbacker sucked his finger, his mouth and lips went numb, uh oh..........

altho dumbacher gets the credit for discovering the birds were poisonous, just think about the onamatopiea of the name, clearly some hunter in new guinea way back in the day took a little taste and spit out............

and that's the spirit behind pitohui, not an easy to digest snack but i do take flight sometimes
