8. So that's what the hole in the middle of the album is used for!
:wow:

I will never look at a 45 RPM record ever again in quite the same way...

I also pity those who'd find the hole in a CD to be less than snug... :scared:

9. Got the special edition a few years back. Classic record.
right before Curtis died. I was in Chicago on business the day Curtis passed, and even the NPR talk radio station was playing Curtis Mayfield tracks. It made driving through Chicago rush hour bearable.

I also picked up the double-disc set of "What's Going On", another one of my favorite early 70s records. They come close, but they just don't make records like this anymore.

11. My cynical mind leads me to wonder not if but when the lame-o remake is
coming out?

But I won't dwell on negativity.

Yes, a great album and a great soundtrack; Mayfield was too underrated as a soundtrack man (another great effort is his collaborative effort with the Staple Singers for the second film in the Poitier-Cosby trilogy "Let's Do It Again"; while the man shadowing him, Isaac Hayes had some great orchestrations ("Shaft" is definitely one of the great scores of the 70s), Mayfield killed when it came to great lyrics. Indeed, Hayes' sense of social relevance mostly came through in his prolonged rap overtures, while Curtis had been penning meaningful tunes since his days leading the Impressions.

Just a taste from Superfly...

Little Child Runnin' Wild

One room shack
On the alley back
Controlled, I'm told,
From across the track

Where is the mayor
Who'll make all things fair?
He lives outside
Our polluted air...

Pusherman

Two bags, please, for a generous fee,
Make your world what you want it to be.
Got a woman I love desp'rately
Wanna give her somethin' better than me.
Been told I can't be nothin' else
Just a hustler in spite of myself.
I know I can break it.
This life just make it.
