Why do politicians never have goatees?

I feel like this doesn't bode well for me, should I someday seek elected office. Are goatees sinister? Do they cause mistrust???

I didn't mean Hitler had a goatee...what I meant was, his moustache came to symbolize evil so anyone wearing one would be regarded as eveil, too. Goatees have been associated with the devil, therefore people wearing them are regarded as evil, too.

not necessarily a recipe for political failure. As I've mentioned here on DU before, ANYONE (save perhaps pedophiles, rapists, murderers or some other despicable type charactor) can be elected. (Not you, I know- just had to make a point)

If you have an ability to relate to people and are willing to work your butt off to prove it, generally speaking, your physical appearance will only be a small consideration in the mind of most voters.

That said, why chance it? Many Pol's, especially those lower down on the totem pole can get away with various 'non-cookie-cutter' type appearances. But it becomes harder the higher up you go. Conformity sucks I know...

On the other hand..

There are SO many variables as to why people vote the way they do, most of which you can't control. But you can at least control your image. Who knows... a goatee MAY enhance your image (depending on the type of voters you are dealing with, as well as how you fit that image into a leadership role) but again, generally speaking, it could slightly hurt you.

Long story short. It could; (the un-conventional goatee look) hurt you, but if this look is part of who you are, DON'T change it. It's probably only a very small consideration among many others in your voter's minds. You'd have a much better chance of winning, goatee or not, if you present yourself as who you really are; heart mind and soul. Be yourself and work you butt off.
