Photography help needed!
Iam going to a dance this weekend, and I want to take pictures. My camera is a Kyocera-Yashica Elite 135se with zoom. Later year I brought a disposable camera and my pictures all ended up looking like crap because the lighting was bad. So my question is: when do I and when don't I use the flash? The dance will be pretty dim lighting if that helps.

Thank you so much! I know there are a ton of great photographers here.

1. Always
If you're afraid of harsh shadows, the camera probably has a softer flash mode. Check the instruction manual.

2. That's the problem. The manual doesn't say very much about when to use the
flash. It only talks about outdoor options.

3. It might assume you'll always use it on 'auto'
Flash is absolutely critical indoors, because the temperature of the light is balanced with the film — or, with digital cameras, the MOS censor. Even if there's enough light indoors for a no-flash exposure, the color rendition won't be accurate under tungsten or, especially, fluorescent light.

6. Make sure you have extra batteries
Flash eats up battery power more than anything except the LCD viewfinder.

7. The right film speed is important

As someone who takes a lot of concert pics, I recommend 400 speed film and setting your flash on automatic. It does a good job of freezing action in low light, as you can see. Oh, and holding your breath just before you take the pic helps, too.
