Store tuna under the bed? Why stop there?
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 04:15 PM by mikeytherat
In case of bird flu pandemic, the government wants us to stockpile tuna fish UNDER OUR BEDS - seriously:

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060316/dcth045.html?.v=49

Stating that no one in the world is prepared for an influenza pandemic, HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt said, "When you go to the store and buy three cans of tuna fish, buy a fourth and put it under the bed. When you go to the store to buy some milk, pick up a box of powdered milk. Put it under the bed. When you do that for a period of four to six months, you are going to have a couple of weeks of food, and that's what we're talking about."

I feel that the DU community can be MUCH more creative than this, so lets get a thread going with all of the food items we should store, and where we should store them! I'll go first:

Jars of peanut butter in the laundry hamper

Kipper snacks under the coffee table

Come all ye warped and sarcastic, whattya got?

13. I'd certainly need noodles and potatoes, and the only place for
them I could think of would be with the guest blankets and pillow cases. The canned tomatoes will sit nicely alongside the acrylic colours, and the other canned vegetables I'll stack with my hatboxes. Where else?!

19. No, the pantry is the first place the bird flu looters will look!
Duh.... :)

You must hide the edibles under the sleepable less the lootables be looted.

(or something like that)

20. So what do I do with all the tuna
When there is no flu pandemic? My two kitties would be quite happy to eat tuna until they puke, but I don't like cleaning up cat puke.
Remember Y2K? People were told to stockpile food, then they were stuck with 50 lb. bags of rice.

24. During the Y2K panic, I bought tuna everytime it was on sale.
Well, after 2000 passed without any incidents, I had about 30 cans of tuna stored under my sink. I couldn't eat all of it, but my dogs sure enjoyed it.
