He's an old jazz guy, someone you'd expect to see in New Orleans or Jamaica (where he actually does run jazz festivals).

First time I've ever seen him with a music stand - Irish music might not be his usual bill of fare, but he knows what the customers want!

I was wearing green Mardi Gras beads and cracking up over his music choice, and when I put $1 in his sax case, he changed to "When Irish Eyes are Smiling"

These are the times that make it worthwhile to work in the city.

2. Suburban Station
The same guy plays outdoors around 17th or 18th and Chestnut when it's nice. He's wonderful.

I am SOOOO wishing we could have made Clearwater....

4. Lucky dog.
Here in Chicago, there's a guy who hangs out on the sidewalk very close to Union Station, and he sucks. All he can do is play fragments of TV theme songs, and he doesn't do that very well. I always wince on my way to the station.

5. There's a dreadful electric violinist who plays at pm rush hour
He literally hurts my ears - not only is he bad, but he's so LOUD he's painful. I have NEVER seen anybody give him any money, even small change. He's usually playing something depressing (hello? "Elenor Rigby" is NOT going to make cranky commuters reach into their wallets and purses)

The sax guy makes a ton -- he's so delightful - his sax case is usually full of ones, and I see always see folks dropping money in. Kind of "thanks for making commuting more bearable" money. Plus he's got a ton of other things going on -- lessons, jazz festivals, caberets.
