White lies to friends?

Okay, so I have like two main sets of friends... my downtown friends and my good ole' boys I grew up with.
There's often an issue when I get invoted to a party downtown... cause it's usually through a downtown friend and I don't know the person hosting. So, naturally one of my good ole boy friends will call to see what I'm doing. When I say, "I'm going to a party." They, of course, wanna go. But then I have to wriggle around trying to explain I don't know the person and can't just invite people... blah blah blah.
And I hate having to have the "Hey, mind if I invite someone" conversation. Especially since the DT parties are often in small apartments.

So, should I just tell people I don't know what I'm doing and then not return calls?
