Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 11:12 PM by EstimatedProphet
I have a 'dream funeral'.

I want a Viking funeral. I want to be set in a boat, kicked offshore, and have the boat shot with flaming arrows. TheProphetess doesn't care for this much...

For the music, I want 'Brain Damage/Eclipse' and 'Ripple' played. Maybe 'Box of Rain' too - that was Jerry's last song.

i'd also think of "bid you goodnight" just because I always like to hear that song at the end of a long weekend or a great show :D

I'm not sure the floating pyre would be legal, though it sounds cool ;)

4. Gone, Gone, Gone by Bad Company
Not everything in the song is applicable to me being dead, but the chorus fits and I love the band:

Well, I been havin a litlle trouble Lord
But I'm keepin it together yeah
My baby just walked out the doors
She said this time forever

It ain't the first time baby
Baby it wont be the last
I'd better get the boys round
And do some drinkin fast

Cause she's gone, gone, gone
I dont know if I'm happy
I don't know if I'm sad
She's gone gone gone
I dont know if i'll cry
I dont know if I'll die laughin

Well I'm gonna miss your lovin
And your perfume and your smile
I'm gonna miss your stealin all my booze
And talkin all the while
I'm gonna miss you cleanin round the home
And helpin with my blues
You know I think I'll get myself a maid
And take her on a cruise

It ain't the first time baby
Baby it wont be the last
I'd better get the boys round
And do some drinkin fast

Cause she's gone gone gone
AI dont know if I'm happy
I don't know if I'm sad
She's gone gone gone
I dont know if I'll cry
I dont know if I'll die laughin

It ain't the first time baby
Baby it wont be the last
I'd better get the boys round
And do some drinkin fast
Cause she's gone gone gone
I dont know if I'm happy
I don't know if I'm sad
She's gone gone gone
I dont know if I'll cry
I dont know if I'll die laughin

Or if I snuff it on a bad day:

Lyrics by Kirk R. Thatcher
Music by Mark Mangini

(to be sung Allegro con Temptible)

Just what is the future?
The things we've done and said.
Let's just push the button.
We'd be better off dead!

And I hate you!
and I berate you !
and I can't wait to get to you...

The sins of all the fathers,
being dumped on us – the sons
The only choice we're given is:
How many megatons?

So I eschew you!
And I say "SCREW YOU"!
And I hope you're blue too!

We're all bloody worthless,
Just greedy human scum,
The numbers all add up
to a negative sum...

And I hate you!
And I hate you!
And I hate you...too!

(Repeat in angry scream 'til hoarse – or blood sprays from throat. Whichever comes first...)

11. I have a friend who is a paramedic.
He got in trouble a few years ago for playing that song as he went to calls. His new partner (a lowly EMT) squealed him out.

He swears that, if he's ever in an accident and his coworkers have to transport him, he wants them to play that song. He also wants it played at his funeral.

20. cheeezus
sounds like some of the stupid shit I have to put up with at work. This week, we had a tech fair, and my area had a booth where we demo'ed some streaming video stuff we're thinking about adding.

We were playing "March of the Penguins", and somebody got pissed off because it showed a baby penguin being eaten by a predator. This person was going to lodge an official complaint because the film was "inappropriate" because of its content.

Some people need to get some hobbies.

Oh my god, god forbid anyone sees anything that actually happens in nature... I had someone tell me they thought it was inappropriate that I let my 3-yr-old watch that movie. You know why we're all so fucking scared of dying? Because we hide it and pretend it doesn't happen and on and on... sigh. :eyes:

12. South City Midnight Lady--Doobies
It's already in the will...and because it's me and the way I want to be remembered ;-)

Up all night I could not sleep
The whiskey that I drank was cheap
With shakin' hands I went and I lit up my last cigarette
Well the sun came, night had fled
And sleepy eyed I reached my bed
I saw you sleepy dreamin' there all covered and warm

South City midnight lady
I'm much obliged indeed
You sure have saved this man whose soul was in need
I thought there was no reason
For all these things I do
But the smile that sent out returned with you

When day has left the night behind
And shadows roll across my mind
I sometimes find myself alone out walkin' the street
Yes, and when I'm feelin' down and blue
Then all I do is think of you
And all my foolish problems seem to fade away

South City midnight lady
I'm much obliged indeed
You sure have saved this man whose soul was in need
I thought there was no reason
For all these things I do
But the smile that sent out returned with you

82. Also love "Clear As The Driven Snow"
When I met Pat Simmons, I asked him about that song. I wondered if he had been in a bad place in his life at that time. He was surprised at my question and said no one had ever asked him about the origin of that one. He went on to tell me that he had been in a bad place in his life when he wrote it. He was in Colorado at the time, and had been drinking and doing a lot of drugs. He said after he wrote it that he realized it was time to change, and it was a major turning point in his life.

Lucky me...Pat also signed my Doobies Anthology songbook for me...at the top of the South City Midnight Lady page. His wife told me that many people they've talked to, and even a close friend of theirs, have had that one as a wedding song, but I was a first in telling them it would be a song for celebrating the end of life.

13. BACK ON EARTH BY OZZY OSBOURNE
I have fallen from grace, and my ashes are scattered
No longer a passion and flesh
My flame is alive, though my wings have been shattered
They laid my body to rest.
My spirit is breathing, my senses are pure
Like reincarnation my soul will endure
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Back on earth
Back on earth
Back on earth
The spirit it never lets go
Like fountains of sorrow, the faces are crying
I'm witnessing all of their pain
Death is so final for only the living
The spirit will always remain
Bury me deep just to cover my sins
My soul is redeemed as the journey begins
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Back on earth
Back on earth
Back on earth
The spirit it never lets go
ah ah ah ah
ah ah ah ah
Another dimension, a river of light
I'm twisting, I'm turning, my soul is entwined
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh......
Back on earth (you thrill me)
Back on earth (reveal me)
Back on earth (still breathing)
Back on earth (release me)
Back on earth (you thrill me)
Back on earth (reveal me)

17. This one is way too easy. "Dust in the Wind."
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 11:30 PM by Dem2theMax
Cuz that's all I'm gonna be. ;)

And I'm not having a funeral. I just want to be thrown into the air of the mountains and left in peace. :)

Edited because my brain works faster than my fingers (very hard to believe) and I left out a word.

Double edited to add that it may be sooner than I think. Something bit me on my hip/thigh area. It hurts. A lot. Turning red. If I don't post tomorrow, someone please play "Dust in the Wind" in my honor.

But as someone else already pointed out up-thread, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."
If I do go, no more 'bushland' for me.

21. Forever Young...Alphaville...
Forever Young
------- -----
(Gold/Mertens/Lloyd)

Let's dance in style,
Let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait,
We're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best
But expecting the worst
Are you going to drop the bomb or not????
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power
But we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit,
Life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men
Can you imagine when this race is won??
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders,
We're getting in tune
The music's played by the madmen

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever -- and ever

Some are like water
Some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?
It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever
So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We'll let them come true

Forever young...

*** and then I want everyone to drink and be merry to a collection of my favorite 80's tunes. :hi:

When I got sick last year, I wrote down all of the songs I wanted people to celebrate together with...no flowers, few tears, just people loving people. I also wrote letters to all I hold dear in case the inevitable happens sooner than I want it to. I feel ready.

Thanks for liking it aQuArius.

22. And When I Die
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 11:33 PM by merh
And When I Die
Written by - Laura Nyro
From - Blood, Sweat & Tears

I'm not scared of dying
And I, don't really care
If it' s peace you find in dying
Well then, let the time be near

If it's peace you find in dying
Well then dying time is near
Just bundle up my coffin
'Cause it's
Cold way down there
I hear that it's
Cold way down there, yeah
Crazy cold, way down there

And when I die, and when I'm gone
There'll be, one child born
In this world
To carry on, to carry on

Now troubles are many
There as
Deep as a well
I can swear there ain't no Heaven
But I pray there ain't no hell
Swear there ain't no Heaven
And I'll pray there ain't no hell
But I'll never know by livin'
Only my dyin' will tell, yes only my
Dyin' will tell, oh yeah
Only my dyin' will tell

And when I die, and when I'm gone
There'll be, one child born, in this world
To carry on, to carry on
Yeah yeah

Give me my freedom
For as long as I be
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
And all I ask of dyin' is to
Go naturally, only wanna
Go naturally
Here I go!
Hey hey
Here come the devil
Right behind
Look out children, here he come
Here he come, hey

Don't wanna go by the devil
Don't wanna go by the demon
Don't wanna go by satan
Don't wanna die uneasy
Just let me go
Naturally

And when I die, and when I'm dead
Dead and gone
There'll be
One child born, in our world
To carry on, to carry on

(Of course, for my spiritual/religious friends, let me assure you that I know there is a Heaven, I just can't get there if I am here!)

28. I actually want two songs
My second one is:

Song: What I Did For Love Lyrics

Kiss today goodbye,
The sweetness and the sorrow.
Wish me luck, the same to you.
But I can't regret
What I did for love, what I did for love.
Look my eyes are dry.
The gift was ours to borrow.
It's as if we always knew,
And I won't forget what I did for love,
What I did for love.
Gone,
Love is never gone.
As we travel on,
Love's what we'll remember.
Kiss today goodbye,
And point me t'ward tomorrow.
We did what we had to do.
Won't forget, can't regret
What I did for
Love
What I did for
Love
What I did for...

Love
Love is never gone
As we travel one
Love's what we'll remember
Kiss today goodbye.
And point me t'ward tomorrow.

Point me t'ward tomorrow
We did what we had to do.
Won't forget, can't regret
What I did for love.
What I did for love.
What I did for love
Love

Damn, I want your autograph! :D

I would love to say I have seen tons of plays, but I have never seen a play on Broadway. :(
I will one day, I have time yet.

I did get to see Richard Harris in Camelot in a traveling production when they came to New Orleans. Again, for this girl from Mississippi, that was truly a wonderful show. I have seen other shows in New Orleans and I think the Saegner Theater survived, so there will be more.

And, on television, DVD, video etcetera, I have seen them all, everyone ever recorded.

52. Awwww... I'm just happy..
to find that there are other big musical theatre geeks as me out there (especially on the DU!) We had a a DU meet-up when I was in "42nd Street" in Denton (TX) last year. Gosh! That production had some AWESOME tap-dancing. I think I'll audition for "Grease" in April(hoping they'll cast an older (20-something)) cast like they did in the movie.

Broadway and Stockard Channing wasn't a day over 18 when she played the role. :sarcasm:

Rizzo is the best character in that play. "There are worse things I could do, than be with a boy or two!"

You know it's all about attitude!

29. "I'll Fly Away" Allison Krauss and Gillian Welch
Some bright morning, when this life is over
I'll fly away
To that home on God's celestial shore
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

When The shadows of this life have gone
I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls I'll fly
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

Oh how glad and happy when we meet
I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joys will never end
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away, in the morning
When I die, hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away

105. It's just so beautiful and earthy...
A good friend of mine in college had a hometown friend who passed away a few years ago from cancer, and the friend had asked ahead of time for this song to be played at his funeral. The first time I ever heard it was when my friend told me this story and the sadness and beauty of it has always stayed with me...

112. I heard it first on my "Brother, Where Art Thou?" CD.
I've told my daughter and my husband to play it for me when the time comes. It's beautiful and so hopeful, too. I was hoping it would make them smile, thinking of me flying and free, some sweet morning. Interesting how the context changes the meaning. I can see why it would make you cry, though. Anyway, an excellent choice!

126. Also from 'O Brother': "Angel Band" by the Stanley Brothers...
The latest sun is sinking fast, my race is nearly run
My strongest trials now are past, my triumph is begun

O come Angel Band, come & around me stand
O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home
O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home

I know I'm near the holy ranks of friends & kindred dear
I've brushed the dew on Jordan's banks, the crossing must be near

I've almost gained my Heavenly home, my spirit loudly sings
The Holy ones, behold they come, I hear the noise of wings

O bear my longing heart to Him who bled & died for me
Whose blood now cleanses from all sin & gives me victory

O come Angel Band, come & around me stand
O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home
O bear me away on your snowy wings to my immortal home

Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I'm on the highway to hell

No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payin' my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land

I'm on the highway to hell
(Don't stop me)

And I'm going down, all the way down
I'm on the highway to hell

35. Joni Mitchell's The Circle Game
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 12:01 AM by u4ic
Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star

Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like when you're older must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams

And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town
And they tell him take your time it won't be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down

And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There'll be new dreams maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through

And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

60. "What's Up ?" by 4 non blondes
What's up

25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this
Brotherhood of man
For whatever that means
So I cry somethimes when I'm lying in bed
To get it all out what's in my head
Then I start feeling a little peculiar
So I wake in the morning and I step
Outside I take deep breath
I get real high
Then I scream from the top of my lungs
What's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
And I try, oh my God do I try
I try all the time
In this institution
And I pray, oh my God do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution
So I cry sometimes when I'm lying in my bed
To get it all out what's in my head
Then I start feeling a little peculiar
So I wake in the morning and I step outside
I take a deep breaththen I get real high
Then I scream from the top of my lungs
What's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination

65. I've been to town by frank sinatra

I've been to town, I've walked the highways and in the suburbs too.
I've done somethings I never thought I'd ever do.
Now as I stand here looking down at you, you ask me why it is I frown.
I guess it's 'cause I've been to town.
I've been to town beyond the boulevard and down the beach,
I've learned some things that only time can teach,
For instance, love is more than just a speech,
It's got to find a common ground,
I know 'cause I've been to town.
Don't tell me any more, I can't waste any more years,
I've seen my image in your eyes,
Dissolve in disappointed tears.
I've been to town, you ask me do I know the Milky Way,
I do, and furthermore I'd like to say
It isn't milky white, it's dingy gray,
Especially when your world breaks down,
I know because I've been to town.

71. Ooooodles of music at mine.
Pretty much the whole thing will be sung.

Evening before - Vespers of the Dead - chanted to plainsong.

Morning (but before the main service) - Mattins and Lauds of the Dead, chanted to plainsong.

Main service - solemn Latin Requiem Mass.

Victoria's Requiem,
Dies Irae to plainsong,
3 hymns - Jesu Lover of my Soul (processional), Jesu Son of Mary (Communion), Jerusalem the Golden (at the end),
Anthem before the Absolutions, Russian Kontakion of the Dead.
Organ prelude - L'Apparition de l'Eglise Eternelle - O. Messiaen.
Organ postlude - Le Cinqieme Trompette - J. Langlais.

The actual burial service will all be said, but once it's all concluded and the Priests have left the grave-side then "He is an Englishman" from H.M.S. Pinafore (before the massive piss-up).

77. Sondheim - The Millers Son (another BWay nerd on DU here)
I shall marry the miller's son,
Pin my hat on a nice piece of property.
Friday nights, for a bit of fun, we'll go dancing.
Meanwhile...

It's a wink and a wiggle and a giggle in the grass
And I'll trip the light fandango,
A pinch and a diddle in the middle of what passes by.
It's a very short road from the pinch and the punch
To the paunch and the pouch and the pension.
It's a very short road to the ten thousandth lunch
And the belch and the grouch and the sigh.

In the meanwhile,
There are mouths to be kissed before mouths to be fed
And a lot in between in the meanwhile.
And a girl ought to celebrate what passes by.
*
Or I shall marry the businessman
Five fat babies and lots of security.
Friday nights, if we think we can,
We'll go dancing.
Meanwhile...

It's a push and a fumble and a tumble in the sheets
And I'll foot the highland fancy,
A dip in the butter and a flutter with what meets my eye.
It's a very short fetch from the push and the whoop
To the squint and the stoop and the mumble.
It's not much of a stretch to the cribs and the croup
And the bosoms that droop And go dry.

In the meanwhile,
There are mouths to be kissed before mouths to be fed,
And there's many a tryst and there's many a bed
To be sampled and seen in the meanwhile.
And a girl has to celebrate what passes by.
*
Or I shall marry the Prince of Wales,
Pearls and servants and dressing for festivals.
Friday nights, with him all in tails,
We'll have dancing.
Meanwhile...

It's a rip in the bustle and a rustle in the hay
And I'll pitch the quick fantastic,
With flings of confetti and my petticoats away up high.
It's a very short way from the fling that's for fun
To the thigh pressing under the table.
It's a very short day til you're stuck with just one
Or it has to be done on the sly.

In the meanwhile,
There are mouths to be kissed before mouths to be fed,
And there's many a tryst and there's many a bed,
There's a lot I'll have missed but I'll not have been dead when I die!
And a person should celebrate everything passing by.
*
And I shall marry the miller's son...

86. I have a long list that I created ten years ago
I want there to be a huge party with my favorite songs. I have yet to burn some CDs though.

Here is one of them. Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle":

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I’d like to do
Is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I’d save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I’ve looked around enough to know
That you’re the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I’ve looked around enough to know
That you’re the one I want to go
Through time with

Well, probably not at the funeral itself, but somewhere along the way of the festivities ...

Woke up this morning
Put on my slippers
Walked in the kitchen and died
And oh what a feeling!
When my soul
Went thru the ceiling
And on up into heaven I did ride
When I got there they did say
John, it happened this way
You slipped upon the floor
And hit your head
And all the angels say
Just before you passed away
These were the very last words
That you said:

Chorus:
Please don't bury me
Down in that cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have "em" cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size
Give my stomach to Milwaukee
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
Just get "em" out of here
Venus de Milo can have my arms
Look out! I've got your nose
Sell my heart to the junkman
And give my love to Rose

Repeat Chorus

Give my feet to the footloose
Careless, fancy free
Give my knees to the needy
Don't pull that stuff on me
Hand me down my walking cane
It's a sin to tell a lie
Send my mouth way down south
And kiss my ass goodbye

Repeat Chorus

101. Dust in the Wind
I close my eyes
Only for a moment, then the moment's gone
All my dreams
Pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind
All they are is dust in the wind

Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind, ohh

Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

Dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
Everything is dust in the wind
The wind

106. Let it Be - The Beatles and You Never Know - Dave Matthews Band
I'm sure everyone here know the lyrics to Let it Be.

You Never Know - Dave MAtthews Band

Sitting still as stone watching - watching
People walking by you wondering why
No one ever stops to talk or thinks about it – if they ever did
What if God shuffled by?

One day we might see
Doing not a thing
Breathing just to breathe
We might find some reason

But rushing around seems what’s wrong with the world
Don’t lose the dreams inside your head
They’ll only be there til you’re dead
Dream

Lying on the roof counting
The stars that fill the sky I wonder if
Someone in the heavens looking back down on me – I’ll never know
So much space to believe

Funny when you’re small
The moon follows the car
There’s no one but you see
Hey, the moon is chasing me

I worried if I looked away she’d be gone
Don’t lose the dreams inside your head
They’ll only be there til you’re dead
Dream

Walking through the wood
No cares in the world
The world has come to play
She’s all mine just for a day

There’s not a moment to lose in the game
Don’t let the troubles in your head
Steal too much time you’ll soon be dead
So play

All fall down
It won’t be so long now
Out of the darkness comes light like a flash
You think you can you think you can
Sometimes that is the problem
Dream little darling dream

Spinning on the wind
The leaf fell from the limb

But everyday should be a good day to die
Oh all fall down
It won’t be too long now
Every fire dies
I find it hard to explain how I got here
I think I can I think I can
Then again I will falter
Dream little darling dream

Spinning on the wind
The leaf fell from the limb

108. After watching the video of "Helena" by My Chemcial Romance
I told my husband that I wanted a funeral just like that, complete with the dancers, the band singing that song, and the temporary reserrection. In a way, that song works for me if I were to die anytime soon the way that the song "The Ocean Breathes Salty" worked for a former friend of ours.
They didn't really play that song at his funeral to my knowledge. It was just the song that I thought of, even before he died, when I thought about his death.

113. "Angel"
ANGEL
by Sarah Mclachlan
Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay

there's always one reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day

I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps through my veins
let me be empty
oh and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

in the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you were pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep building the lies
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
oh this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

in the arms of the angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you were pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

114. Pink Floyd's Learning to Fly
Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast,
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted Just an earthbound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that is learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night

There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, A state of bliss
Can't keep my mind from the circling sky
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

115. Blood Sweat & Tears: And When I Die
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 09:13 PM by Xipe Totec
I'm not scared of dyin'
And I don't really care
If it's peace you find in dyin'
Well then let the time be near
Just bundle up my coffin
'Cause its cold way down there
And when I die
And when I'm gone
There'll be one child born
And a world to carry on

My troubles are many
They're deep as a well
I swear there ain't no heaven
And I pray there ain't no hell
But I'll never know by livin'
Only my dyin' will tell
And when I die
And when I'm gone
There'll be one child born
And a world to carry on

Give me my freedom
For as long as I be
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
All I ask of livin'
Is to have no chains on me
And all I ask of dyin'
Is to go naturally
And when I die
And when I'm gone
There'll be one child born
And a world to carry on

(Are you Ready? Here We Go)
Slow-Slow- Quick Quick Slow
Slow-Slow- Quick Quick Slow

Countdown Its getting near to the flight time
Night stars are shining in my eyes
Ma says I'm gonna be the first one
To dance the be-bop in the skies

Dancing in Heaven I never thought I'd ever get my feet this far
(Orbital Be-Bop)
Dancing in Heaven I never thought I'd ever get my feet this far
(Orbital Be-Bop)
(Kick it out)

Slow-Slow- Quick Quick Slow

I'll be the first to Bassa Nova
Ten thousand miles above L.A.
You dear, my lady on the Radar
I'll bring a child to Outer Space

Dancing in Heaven I never thought I'd ever get my feet this far
(Orbital Be-Bop)
Dancing in Heaven I never thought I'd ever get my feet this far

The Celestial Scream
I, I'm not alone
Are you receiving me clear
There is Others out here

118. U2: "One Tree Hill"
Beautiful song they wrote for a long-time crew member who died too young.

We turn away to face the cold, enduring chill
As the day begs the night for mercy, love.

A sun so bright it leaves no shadows
Only scars carved into stone on the face of earth.

The moon is up and over One Tree Hill
We see the sun go down in your eyes.

You run like a river on to the sea
You run like a river runs to the sea.

And in the world, a heart of darkness, a fire-zone
Where poets speak their heart then bleed for it

Jara sang, his song a weapon in the hands of love.
You know his blood still cries from the ground.

It runs like a river runs to the sea.
It runs like a river to the sea.

I don't believe in painted roses or bleeding hearts
While bullets rape the night of the merciful.

I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky
And the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill.

We run like a river runs to the sea
We run like a river to the sea.

And when it's rainin', rainin' hard
That's when the rain will break a heart.

123. Hank Williams Jr. - All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down
All my rowdy friends have settled down and it seems to be more in the laid back songs.
Nobody wants to get drunk and get loud.Everybody just wants to go back home.
I myself have seen my wilder days and I have seen my name at the top of the page,
but I need to find a friend just to run around. But no one wants to get high on the town
and all my rowdy friends have settled down.

And I think I know what my father meant when he sang about a lost highway and old George Jones I'm glad to see he's finally getting straight,
and Waylon staying home and loving Jesse more these days,
and nobody wants to get drunk and get loud and all my rowdy friends have settled down.

and the hang overs hurt more then they used to and corn bread and ice tea took the place of pills and ninety-proof,
and it seems like none of us do things quite like we used to do
and nobody wants to get high on the town and all my rowdy friends have settled down.

Yeah I think I know what my father meant when he sang about his lost highway and Johnny Cash don't act like he did back in '68
and Kriss he is a movie star and he's moved off to L.A.
and nobody wants to get drunk and get loud and all my rowdy friends have settled down

125. Interesting question - not what I *do* want, but what I *would* want,
implying a list of the sort of runner-up songs.

Hmmm... I suppose I would put Free Bird in that category; On Eagle's Wings, which I liked when I heard it first before it became cliche and I've had to endure so many badly sung versions at funerals; The Gift of Love I used to like, too, but that's out.

So, my list of songs I *would* like to have played at my funeral, but won't:

Free Bird
On Eagle's Wings
The Gift of Love
Disturbing the Priest, just cuz I think it fucking rocks, but it really isn't appropriate.
Mahler's Symphony No. 2 <-- only because I'm sure my family could never afford it, but I'd really love to have it played.
