"Vendetta" Bloodies Box Office 1#
Edited on Sun Mar-19-06 11:47 PM by Room101

The Wachowski brothers' adaptation of Alan Moore and David Lloyd's classic graphic novel about rebellion against a fascist regime pulled in an estimated $26.1 million to handily win the weekend box office.

1. Let the subversion spread through the multiplex!
You know, their adaptaion of V really makes me reconsider my original interpretation of the original Matrix movie. What if the Matrix was about the imaginary world created by the web of lies brought forth by the conservative media?

2. This movie is an instant classic that will stand the test of time
As a box-office comparison, #2 this weekend was "Failure to Launch", a romantic comedy, that only made $15 million, little more than half of V4V.

I hope the Freepers are prepared for this movie to own the box office for a while, because people will be seeing it again and again. I just saw it today, and I am still almost in shock from it. I know I will have to see it at least two more times just to pick up all the nuances I missed.

3. I felt the same way
It was one of those rare films that just left me speechless and feeling like I need time to absorb its impact.

6. Good total, but not great
I hope to see it again at an IMAX this weekend.... but, $26.1 million is pretty good, but nothing spectacular even for March.

7. It's good enough.
This is a risky big budget film. There are any number of reasons it shouldn't be doing as well as it is. The trailers make it look like an action movie, but it's definitely not an action movie. It has a terrorist/anarchist as a protagonist; he even straps explosives to himself. The movie casts authoritarianism and fascism in a negative light (a big no-no in modern society).

I'm happy with how well it's doing, and let's not forget: Matrix didn't start out all that well. It didn't really become huge until it hit DVD.

8. The Matrix had a slightly higher opening than 'Vendetta'
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 03:13 PM by chrisau214
The Matrix made $27,788,331 in it's opening weekend in 1999. It's final box-office total was $460,379,930. So it was quite successful before it hit DVD.

'V' is a better movie.

9. We'll have to see how this plays out.
Like I said, this movie has a lot going against it (e.g. saying that fascism is a bad thing is not politically correct in today's society).
