Fucking brilliant, I got spam in Spanish? I think?

Would someone who actually speaks Spanish, as opposed to "guesses Spanish okay most of the time" like to translate that for me?

1. That's Portuguese, actually.
You should PM Commie Pinko Dirtbag and ask him what it means (he's Brazilian). :hi:

2. You know, I wondered that
But I speak neither well enough to really tell the difference. I will PM him if he doesn't see this tomorrow!

6. Hmmm...
I'm not a real Portuguese speaker, but it looks like they're telling you they're cancelling your voter registration because they don't recognize your CPF number (Brazil's equivalent of the social security number).

What is clear is they want you to click on the link. "Clique Aqui" definitely translates as "Click Here."

What happens then, of course, is that some malware will reformat your hard drive, reprogram all your music downloads to "Queen's Greatest Hits," puncture your car's oil pan, step on a crack and break your mother's back...

7. LOL, nice
Of course they don't recognize my CPF; I don't have one

Queen's Greatest Hits? Are you kidding? There are like 3 Queen songs I like/can stand... oy.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. The point of this sort of spam is just to get you to click on the link; that activates the malware. We haven't actually seen this one; usually we get things that look like official communications from eBay, with all the right graphics and a button that looks like an official link-- but when you drag your cursor over the button, the address it says it's pointing to has nothing to do with eBay. We also get official looking stuff from banks saying our account has been inactive too long and is now due to be cancelled, which would worry us if we'd ever actually had accounts at those banks.

Actually I was just taking the opportunity to practice my extremely limited Portuguese. I have to get better at it, because English isn't spoken in too many of the places we hang out in Brazil, and I want to be able to get around safely and have adventures while I'm there. But purposeful language study is a little too much like work, so I never get around to it.

And Queen's Greatest Hits is a subtle reference to Neil Gaiman's novel Good Times, which if you haven't read it is uproariously funny. :hi:

On edit: unhappycamper posted a pic in the Massachusetts state forum. That weird green beverage jmm and I are holding is called a caipirinha, made of sugar cane liqueur and diced limes, very tasty.

9. I have heard about that kind of spam
For sure. I get lots of bank and credit-card oriented spam like that. Ugh.

I feel the same way about practicing my German... I know I should, but I want to find some fun ways to do it. I'm hoping to look for some books on CD to listen to pretty soon...

I'll have to check out Good Times. I've had Gaiman recommended to me by several different people; his stuff definitely makes my to-read fun-list once this semester is done!

I'll have to go check that pic. I've heard good things about cipirinhas :toast:
