4. Thank you Mrs. G
I find myself very grateful to have made it this far and to have my own baby love his own so well! This son used to rescue baby kittens and try to hide them in his room when he was about 5 because he didn't want to have to find them a new home.

11. What an angel.
And to me, a lot of newborns look the same. However, your new grandkid there is PRECIOUS. I can't take it. What a cutie.

16. Yeah
the first month is great in many ways but is bone crushingly tiring. Lots of late nights-there is no way to really prepare for it just know that you aren't the only one who is going through this...if that helps any.

After the first month or so-ROUTINE ROUTINE ROUTINE this meant to warn you about how monotaneous it is going to be but also to tell you that the baby wants routine. over and over and over. Eat,play, poop, sleep repeat. They do actually get over tired and it throws everything off. Their naps (trust me on this one) help them sleep through the night.

For now. Know that Momma has some HUGE DRASTIC changes going on. You have stress but Momma has stress AND physical changes going on. Now get ready for the advice/heads up no one mentioned before hand..... You will have fights! Some of this is from the hormones rushing around Momma like a stockbroker on crack-some of it is from the fact that Daddy is a noncaring slacker who isn't sufficiently paranoid about the worst that could happen (see note above)-and some of it is from shear exhaustion and fear. Again you are not the first to go through this.

If possible -SLEEP WHEN THE BABY SLEEPS. I know there is laundry to do and household stuff but as much as is possible SLEEP WHEN THE BABY SLEEPS if this only means laying down on a bed and stretching out and resting do that.

18. May I just add...

with the caveat that I am neither a father, nor a mother, that Mother and Father should take advantage of as much familial support as they can get? New Parent Syndrome can be hell on a relationship, but it doesn't have to be. When trustworthy family (or friends) offer to assist with helpful things like babysitting, (after the child is willing to be watched by others, of course, and after parents have adjusted to the idea of temporary separation) utilize those opportunities for peace and quiet and a little solitude whenever possible. It's good for you, so consequently, it's good for the child.

19. I would completely agree
OUr folks and most of our really close friends don't live nearby so we have had only about 1/2 of one day off. Everyone else I know has had folks close enough to drop off the baby on a Friday night or for most of a day. We recognize this from time to time but mostly we are so worried about THAT DAY that we lose sight of it.

Yes take FULL advantage of any help you can get.

21. That is the most honest assessment I've ever heard
I know he'll appreciate the support. I could only remember from my point that I didn't sleep all night for a year or two. I'd forgotten the squabbling. Thanks, I'm e-mailing him the thread. There is nothing quite like personal experience to teach and help those who follow close behind.

That baby has his daddy confused. I haven't laughed so hard since I can remember. He asked me why his son moves his head back and forth and sort of pants (like a puppy, his words) when ever he thinks it's time to eat. Well son, he's just like you its called "rooting". Oh, he says, I thought something was wrong with him! These and many more very innocent and dear questions. I am enjoying the little family so much even if it is from a distance. I really appreciate the lounge indulging me. :hi:
