So, my nine year old wins her first Field Hockey game of the season
and the coach is giving them a little 'let's keep this up, this is just our first game', pep talk afterwards.

My child raises both arms over her head holding her stick and yells 'We're undefeated'!

Coach can't stop laughing.

That kid has the best mental health on the planet.

2. LOL. I didn't even go to the game
I was at Hanover High School with my eldest until 12:30 Saturday morning. Way too late for me to stay out.

3. LOL! Good parenting job!
 Congrats, one and all.

I also have a 9 yr old daughter who won her first softball game of the season on Saturday. :woohoo: Yup, The Glitter Girls are off to a great start.

We always like to say : "It's not about who won, it's about having FUN!"

....however, it IS really nice when they WIN, right? ;)

:hi:

5. Oh, believe me, I had NOTHING to do with it.
She is an entity all her own. She is so different from her sister, I can't believe I gave birth to both of them.

I was glad they won, because last year they didn't win once, but when my husband told me what she had said, I couldn't stop laughing.

8. Oh, c'mon, you're being too modest.
Of course she is her own entity, but the fact that she feels so Powerful and Loved comes from the messages she gets at home. You're doing a great job.

and the ripples go out....

9. Thank you, Shine. That is very kind of you.
You and I both know, parenting is hard, hard work. My kingdom for a full night's sleep.

4. I have a soft spot in my heart for field hockey
When I was on the football team one of my teammates pulled me aside.

"Hey you" he said "you are a kicker you don't need to watch films do you?"

I shrugged as is my wont and off we went to "support the field hockey team". We would lay on our stomachs and look UP at the game ;-)

He was one of the best men at my wedding. We are the best of friends now.

Funny we never got in trouble for skipping films even though as someone who played both sides of the line he probably should have...and then there was that time when they had told me all week not to kickoff to this certain guy and I ran out on the field in the midst of the crowd going wild and realized that since I didn't go to films I had no idea which of the two guys back there he was. It all went well until the 4th quarter when he ran over and caught my kickoff and ended up running it back for a TD and I ended up in the long jump pit. Long story painful memory.

Congrats to the stick wielding youth or yours.

6. That's not field hockey, that voyeurism.
Funny, I pictured you as more of a wide receiver.

7. What sport teaches you about life's lessons
Wide Receivers in wishbone offenses usually only get to block and RARELY get their name in the paper.

There is a ME in T-E-A-M

10. Good for her! I played field hockey for six years
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 12:17 PM by LostinVA
Mainly Right Wing (isn't that ironic).... of course, the last time was in 1982. And I broke my nose and wrecked my knee playing it... but it was great! Good for her.

11. Congrats
Sounds like you did a great job raising your daughter. And, don't be modest - you can brag a little bit if you want.

BTW - on another topic - might not be relocating to Richmond... I got what appears to be too good of a job offer to turn down in CT.
