Please consider joining DU's Folding@Home team.
it is an easy way to help your fellow man/woman. All you have to do is download and run a small program in the background. It is secure and it will not harm your machine or its performance.

I have been folding proteins for years, at times forgetting it was working in the backgroud on my machine.

For info on folding@home, please follow this DU link

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=646990&mesg_id=646990

or visit my journal page. It is the second entry.

We have many people willing and able to help. I can help with the Mac platform if you have any questions.

You can set the client to launch automatically by making it a service, or on the Mac, adding it to logins items. It's really easy to do, and you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are doing some good for your neighbors and loved ones.

1. Thanks for the reminder
Now I remember what that little cog-like flower is in my system tray is for...

Working to save lives, one protein at a time.

3. I was reminded again last night how important this work is...
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 03:50 PM by mcscajun
...when I met a new friend who was diagnosed a few years ago with Parkinson's Disease.

She's a vibrant woman, an adoptive parent, a serious amateur photographer, a progressive, and a fine human being. And she's got PD.

We must all do all we can to find cures...the Folding @ Home Project is one way we can help directly.

By this Summer I will have a Mac Mini Duo. That should speed things up a bit.

11. Recruitment... Recruitment... Recruitment.
That's the answer now. I've been saying "Each One, Recruit One" here on DU for a while now...meaning each DUer recruit One Other.

That's "tip of the iceberg". This evening, I sent out a letter to ten of my liberal friends, to many of whom I provide computer support at No Cost. In the letter, I'm asking them to join our efforts here.

I'll report back on responses.

Go thou and do likewise. :)
