The only real question here is why wouldn’t you join scientology. It seems clear by now that if anyone knows the secret to physical and mental health, it's big time Hollywood stars Kirstie Alley, John Travolta and Tom Cruise.

So much so that it is quite remarkable how we all seem to think the same. Some coincidence, no?

This is not a defence of Scientology. As far as I can tell that "religion" is simply an elaborate scheme to screw people out of their money or labour.

My point is that most of us have taken shelter of some religion or philosophy or ideology and almost none of us worked it all out from first principles ourselves. There isn't enough time and most of us don't have the intelligence for that. So we accept a system of thought that we find agreeable.

I frequently hear a criticism of the Freepers and dittoheads that "they just repeat mantras given to them," but observe that we only do the same thing ourselves. We have our memes and mantras too, that many repeat unthinkingly.

So with all that in mind, I just think it would be helpful if we could adopt a slightly more humble attitude.

So I have no problem with her. She's very funny, sometimes, and I always liked her on "Cheers". When she won the Emmy for "Cheers" and said "I want to thank my husband Parker for giving me the big one", I nearly died laughing.

What she's saying is that Scientology works for her. She's not criticizing those who choose a different path. As much as I think Scientology is a fraud and a cult, she has every right to practice it.

why shouldn't travolta believe? again, a famous actor, then when that got old, he was able to step into a pilot's career, then a famous actor again

if you have everything you ever wanted and more, why shouldn't you believe in religion and that god loves you and all works right in the world?

i don't blame them for believing, the ones i can't understand are the ones who don't have shit and still believe
