I don't claim to be an expert of any type, but isn't that like...REALLY abnormal? :wtf:

She's too young to be spayed (next month or so) so... yeah?

1. Our female pups did that too...and still do at times
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 05:59 PM by Richardo
...I think it's a dominance thing.

What I don't get is how they know the 'moves' for the other gender, especially if they have not been around male dogs at all.

Must be all that intelligent design 'n' stuff.

3. It's incredibly disturbing!
We do have a neutered male dog, but he's...well, let's just say I'm pretty sure he's completely uninterested. He tends to be the catcher when other male dogs are around, so he may not be the marrying kind. :D

4. HA! Our older guy was completely passive that way, too
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 06:03 PM by Richardo
Once he was just lying there while one of the younger dogs started the ol' in-n-out pantomime and I was so mortified for him (calling Dr Freud?) I just yelled out "MAXX you don't have to take that!".

That outburst is still family lore to this day.

38. Is THAT why they do it???
My sister had a wonderful dog, been gone for years, who was a spayed female who loved to hump legs.

I still miss that dog, humping and all.

12. It took her about two years.
And she usually targeted tall men, for some reason.

She'd go for either their legs or their backs.

9. Find a way to convince her that you're the top dog.
Once you become the alpha, she'll stop trying.

13. Ah, yes...the terible twos
VERY common. Spaying her will be a very good start (also much healthier for her). The dominance she's showing is also a common part of play with young dogs. She's trying to establish her space in "the pack" a/k/a your household. So, she needs to know that humping you and/or dad is NOT proper, and needs gentle correction.

Socialize her properly during these next few months, again, with gentle correction in public. This will help her with her confidence levels, and the problem should all but disappear.

What kind/breed of dog is she?

16. She's a puggle...beagle/pug mix
She doesn't do so well with "gentle" correction, either. INCREDIBLY hyper little thing. Usually the only thing that gets her attention is VERY loud, very stern voice commands. Which is a drag, I hate having to yell at her so meanly. :(

Any suggestions how to get her attention in a less gruff way would be appreciated.

18. To get her attention
you can try two routes.

First, loud noise, but not your voice. Clap, whistle...something odd and distracting. If that doesn't work on it's own, try this:

Choose a noise to associate with correcting her. Again, a clap, a whistle...whatever. When she's not paying particular attention to you make that noise, and when she looks at you, give her a tiny treat. Repeat over and over and over. She'll learn that when she hears that noise, to stop what she's doing, and seek you for her treat. However, in time, the treats can stop, and a simply "Good girl" and pat on the head will suffice.

21. Its not about sex, its dominance.
My folks came for a visit and Dad asked which of the six dogs was the "Alpha". I pointed out Buddy. Not more than a minute later Angel, a female of about 6 or 7 y/o walked up to Buddy and started humping him. Its as if she had heard the question and disagreed. The disturbing thing is Buddy just stood their and took it! From now on I will point to Angel as the Alpha!
My pups love to play "who's the bitch?" They take turns humping one another trying to establish a pecking order. The lone female pup is just as aggressive as the males.

28. Yep...
... our female dog does that too, but ONLY one particular oversized stuffed toy. (We keep it hidden now.) She's just over 5 years old, and was spayed at 6-7 months... and she still does it.

I don't think its sexual, it's a dominance thing. She's at the bottom of our family's totem-pole, she's not the alpha-dog at all... but still, she takes comfort in knowing that she's "dominant" over that stuffed animal. (I guess.)

30. "WINKY! Stop humping your SISTER!"
A common phrase in my house. I have 2 bitches. One fixed (the humper) one just a year, not fixed, the humpee.

But the Humpee has started becoming affectionate with her stuffed animals lately.

Maltese, Winky (she of the bionic leg) is the Humper. Lola the precocious pomeranian is the humpee.

It happens.

31. I had a female doxie once who did that - and she had been spayed
She didn't hump other dogs, but she claimed one of my bear house shoes as her very own. I actually took a picture of her in the act once and I swear she looked up at me with a look on her face that said "do you mind? I'm in the middle of something here!" I'll have to scan that photo in! It's hilarious!

32. My Luna lifts her leg.
She's a 2-3 year old rescue who we had spayed upon getting her in July. She started lifting her leg on walks, marking spots that Jack had marked. She also scratches after marking, which Jack does to an exaggerated degree. I think she is imitating Jack in order to "fit in".

34. Funny, true and very sick story
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 02:25 PM by mikeytherat
A friend had a male shitzu that humped everything - people, shoes, furniture, my bass case, you name it. One time the little perv ran up on the couch, grabbed my buddy's friend's head, and starting going to town. Now, you have to visualize this: both front paws covering this guy's eyes, while he humps the back of his head like a porn star. We we all laughing so hard (even the "victim") - until the dog "finished" on the back of the guy's head. At that point, the "victim" ceased finding it funny, but the rest of us thought it was hilarious!

36. Flea has a stuffed dog that has been her 'partner' for many years.
since she was a puppy, she's nine now. She's a ho-dog, masturbates too. Not unusual at all, IMO. Plus, she did it before she was fixed, and after.

I respect my dogs sexuality and allow her to express it, I just wish she didn't feel the need to pull out her puppy every time company comes over, in the middle of the living room!
