Like PC strategy games? Try GalCiv2
Galactic Civilizations 2 has recently been released for the PC:

www.galciv2.com

I've been a fan since the original iteration more than 10 years ago, and this one's even more radically addictive.

It's kinda like Civilization 4, but in space. You can play as the humans (or one of several other races) in a struggle to conquer the galaxy by military, technological, or cultural means. There's tons of things to tweak and experiment with; no two games are ever the same.

It's a truly phenomenal game, and if you like single-player, turn-based strategy games, it's a no-brainer!

Not affiliated--just a longtime satisfied customer.

1. I've been around since the OS/2 days...
The OS/2 version had bugs.

The Windows version had the same bugs.

Weird things happening out of turn; due to the AI engine being ahead of itself.

I'm going to have to replay it so I can be proper with specifics. I only recall that, of games in that genre, GalCiv (OS/2 and later Windows) had the same problems...

I recall it was always one race, the same one, that would get uncharacteristically powerful and wipe you out. But my memory is hazy...

It had charm; moreso than the others of the genre.

And I still love Civilization - the original on the Commodore Amiga.
