Why is the Statue of Liberty closed?
From Compu$erve...

Know THIS About the Statue of Liberty?

The Statue of Liberty has been closed since September 11, 2001. Why? Security concerns. It takes one thing to reopen it to the public: Money. And you can help. The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, in partnership with the National Park Service, has launched the Re-Open Lady Liberty campaign to raise the funds needed to reopen this symbol of international goodwill.

Lady Liberty's message of hope, freedom and dignity is truly an inspiration to us all, now more than ever. You can help Re-Open Lady Liberty by making an online contribution today-- it's easy, secure and fully tax-deductible.

Or make a contribution by check. Mail to:
The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc.
Department Open Liberty
292 Madison Avenue
New York, NY 10017-7769

Uh, how's money going to help? A big Star Trekkian force shield? :eyes: Star Wars missile defense? :eyes: :eyes: Besides, the thing is French made and we told those fuckheaded frogs off before we liberated Iraq's people and gave them freedom and prosperity!! :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

2. Let the ferry concessionaires pay
After all, their boats are the only way to get to the island, if you can't go in the Statue, they lose money.
