What exactly is Geraldo Rivera's appeal?

I'm watching the local Fox channel here...don't ask me why...and I see that Geraldo Rivera has yet ANOTHER show on television. What is so special about this man? I think he's sort of smarmy. Among other things.

No matter what he's done since then... what he did then was a masterful work of investigative journalism that saved the lives of thousands of people, improved the lives of many more, and caused laws and attitudes to change. So... I will give him 10% affirmation for that.

His courage in what he did to report this 34 years ago changed the way America treated it's disabled, in particular the mentally retarded. I have no idea why he took such a lousy turn in the 80's (Al Capone's vaults anyone? :eyes:) and Faux News? Damn. Still though, once upon a time he did good work. For that, I'm grateful.

By the way, my dad's an attorney who did a lot with disability advocacy in his life (on the panel the oversaw Willowbrook in the late 70's- later funding cut :(), so I have first hand information on the subject involved.
