Im looking at getting a 27" for around $200 - $300. What brands are good, what brands should I avoid?

(it's a 36" though).

I also have a Phillips 27" that I've had for about 5 years now that has a great picture. I think I paid around $200 for it when I bought it.

2. Second Toshiba.
Toshiba, the poor man's Sony.

I'm a TV Engineer and my primary TV's at home have all been Toshibas, since 1984.

5. Funny you should put it that way . . .
I actually had the opportunity to get the Sony at the same time for only $50 more (basically the same features, and I had a buddy that worked at Best Buy so could get a big discount).

I went with Toshiba because I actually liked the picture better (Sony always seemed to have kind of a "cold" color balance to me, i.e. the whites were too cold, Toshiba was a bit warmer color and easier on the eyes IMO).
