Water in the basement, no central heat, and the only comfy thing to wear is medieval armor. But, it's what I got. I have to live with it.

97. Red Maple
The floor pictured in the image is only about 3.5 years old. We ripped out a wall to the dining room and had the floor in the dining room extended into the kitchen.

Our entire house, except for the bathrooms and the basement rec room, is red maple hardwood floors.

Thanks for noticing.

It kinda bows out on the long sides a bit. We bought it about 3 years ago.

The kitchen is kinda new. Almost 4 years old now. My brother and his partner did the work. So far, we've been happy with it and hope to recoup the money we spent on it, plus some, when we sell in the next year or so.

Thanks for the compliment.

47. Things that grow good in Alaska...
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 05:34 PM by Blue_In_AK
All kinds of lettuce and other greens, radishes, green onions, New Zealand spinach, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, string beans, sugar snap peas, carrots, beets, zucchini, herbs (mint, chives, parsley, cilantro, oregano, thyme and rosemary). Only the chives, mint and parsley (biennial) are perennials here so I replant the other herbs every summer. Potatoes grow really well up here, but I don't have enough room for them. I think that's about it. I've done tomatoes and cucumbers before, but you really have to baby them with polyethylene shelters and so on, so I haven't bothered with them the last few years.

ed. Oh, and Swiss chard -- in honor of you Swiss. :)

How do you keep the mint in place? I made the mistake once to just plant it in my herb garden, next to a little pond. It grew over my whole herb garden and decided to be hydroculture as well, growing in the pond.

I just cut it back unmercifully when it gets out of hand. What I have more trouble with is both of my neighbors' raspberry bushes which are planted right next to the respective fences and are always creeping in here. Oh, I forgot to mention we have a bunch of strawberries and rhubarb, too.

And for the raspberries, we have four bushes, but this year we'll cut them down and will decide if we keep them next yar. They're just out of control, and we can find any kinds of berries quite close in the woods.

These are not really palm trees but palmetto trees, and they were imported from Marocco in the late 1800's. Now they grow like weed here.

46. My husband and I built this

The picture doesn't do the home justice. It looks like a ranch from this side, but it is actually three stories high overlooking the lake and mountains.
We got the log kit on Sept. 24 and moved in on Dec. 16 with a lot of help from friends and neighbors :)

Our house had burned to the ground in July and there was a full court press in our town to get our new house built by Christmas so that we (husband, wife, two kids, black lab, two cats) didn't have to spend the holiday in the local hotel.

It looks a lot like a bigger version of the one that my SiL's parents just built, also in Maine. Therirs is two stories with an attached garage. I have no idea if it was from a kit, but the house is in Oxford county.

ACTUAL furniture! I went to Ikea and got a 6 foot bookshelf, a bedside table and a dresser for the bedroom and a dining room set. Then I got a loveseat-sized chair from Crate & Barrel for the living room. I need to get another one of those and a matching oversized ottoman...and a flatscreen TV...and then I'm all set!

68. my house

The flag pole was there when we bought it but we took it down because it was flimsy and cheap. When we did we got nasty looks from the neighbors for a few weeks.

Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 10:03 PM by Kingshakabobo
It's a condo so I only have inside pictures cause that's the part I own.

My granite-tile counter-top job I did my self:

And the cabinets I built this winter:

87. VERY nice, Kingshak.
Reminds me very much of my former abode.

May I ask... what kind of wood are your cabinets? They really look great, and your cabinetry skills are quite impressive.

89. Thanks! The cabinets are oak.
This little gadget made it all possible. It's a pocket-hole screw jig for easy joinery. It makes the frame and doors easy to build.

90. Hey thanks!!
I bookmarked that product for future reference.

I used white birch for my cabinets. Very similar appearance.

83. I'll take the thread seriously with some exterior shots...
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 10:11 PM by Pacifist Patriot

BUT

The weird plant by the driveway is gone. That thing was a creature from another universe. I swear! The roots were like something out of Star Trek or V.

And unfortunately, the hibiscus tree in front of the window on the far left of the front view was blown away by Hurricane Frances.

Yes, the exterior paint color is pink. I despise it. If there is any color in this universe I like the least it would have to be pink. And I move into a house with pink exterior, pink carpeting and pink master bathroom fixtures. I am THIS close to eradicating pink in my house. Last bit of carpet in the master bedroom has it's days numbered.

Backyard: Picture doesn't show the Meyer Lemon tree which is my pride and joy.

99. I live in the 2nd floor apartment of a house
Here's the house. My apartment takes up the entire 2nd floor. There are also two apartments on the first floor, one apartment in the partial basement. The house is about 7000 square feet total, and eight people live here. We all have our own kitchens and bathrooms, which is very nice.
