Congratulate me! I killed the TV!
:D

Well, just the dish, actually. I was looking at a repair for a fried box, then I was looking at my bill, then I looked at all the unread books on my shelves...

And it hit me. I don't need to be paying that bill. :)

Even at the lowest rate, it's still more rental movies than I have time to see in a month. I can get my John Stewart fix online. And lordy, if I never have to watch another moment of CNNFOXMSRNC again, I should be a happier man.

Only took ten minutes on hold, just told the guy I was going to have trouble keeping up payment on the thing. Oddly enough, he acted as if he'd heard that a lot, lately...

So raise one to me! :toast: And recommend a book! :D

4. Welcome to the club!
Six months from now, if you go to a friend's house and see the TV shows for just five minutes, you'll be amazed at how different it all looks, the continual bombardment of commercials.

"The Worst Journey in the World," by Apsley Cherry-Gerrard. An account of Scott's ill-fated journey to the South Pole. It gets off to a bit of a slow start, but the chapter entitled "Winter Journey" is just riveting.

8. If it wasn't for sports and the weather channel
I'd do the same thing. I barely watch enough TV now to justify the cable bill.

10. There is no way I could kill my TV connection.
I mean, how could I do without QVC or HSN? I'm a shopaholic.

11. I've been antenna-only for more than two years
I get about 10 stations, and that's plenty — especially since I'd have to give about $75 a month to a cable or satellite provider to get the stations I really want. (Goddam "packaging.")

The vast majority of the time, I don't miss it a bit.
