I stay away from them as much as possible. They are the used car salesmen of the employment world. I have been casually looking since I quit my job for various reasons, and this morning, I got a call from some asshole at a staffing firm who had somehow gotten a copy of my resume. I hate staffing agencies and people who work for them with an intense passion, and I was wondering how the fuck he got my resume so I was somewhat hostile to begin with. I did not submit my resume to him, nor did I contact him. He called me to say that I had no marketable skills and that I was better off working retail. First of all...what the fuck? I have worked for internationally known companies, and certanly am qualified for pretty much everything I apply for and beyond. My employer reviews have been wonderful and I have an entire page of references to back this up. To get a call like this out of the blue just amazed me. He then started talking about how much he made at his old job and how he makes nothing now, as if that was some sort of badge of honor...um...I don't really care. He also spoke of how all of his co-workers think he is an asshole...um..I think I am on their side. Here you are calling me out of the blue, without any kind of intro telling me that I am useless in the workforce when both my experience and resume indicate otherwise. I really should have let him have it. I was just so shocked that this happened. It was certanly one of the weirdest things to happen today. He also wanted to set up a time for me to come in and to a typing test and word skills test. Needless to say, I declined the offer. For one thing, typing speed has never been the thing that has been judged the most, and he just wanted fresh blood to make his recruiting quota for the week. Um...No thanks, but ya might want to work on your method. I am kind of hurt by this, but at the same time, I am just so weirded out by the whole thing. It isn't every day that you are called useless. I turned down a very lucrative deal last week because it did not feel right and when I declined the offer, they upped it. The guy was an ass in the interview and I am not going to be unhappy in a working environment. I declined it...It was probably stupid, but it was my gut feeling on the matter.
I had an initial interview yesterday for a hotel firm, which is wanting to pay me a huge amount of money, and that would have perks such as free travel and a large expense account. The main people who would be doing the hiring are out of the country--doing research for a project in Montreal, which would actually be my job if I were to get it. I am keeping everything crossed for it. I love travel and if they pay for it, I love it even more. It is a buyer position, which sounds as if it would be right up my alley. I hope I get the second interview:7 Especially seeing as though I am so unqualified and useless, that my talents would be better served working at Wal Mart.:eyes:
I do work part time right now helping with PR for a television station while they are preparing for the upfronts. It is fun. I essentially get paid for watching tv and lying to people about how good the shows are.
