I used to go to concerts all the time but in the past ten years with work and kids I haven't been able to. What was it like? Did they say anything about what had happened?

But anyway, about the concert in question.

They came out and played several songs without saying anything to the audience at all. Then, during the first little "break" the lead singer says, "How is everybody? (cheers) Is everyboday okay? (cheers) I know that some of you out there must be feeling a little scared or sad. (dead silence). But let me tell you something....everything is going to be just fine. And this is why: I've got wheels of polished steel...." and with that they began playing "Satan is My Motor."

Now, having just typed all that it just doesn't come across with the power that the experience had. But it really was a transcendent moment. Part of me really WAS a little bit anxious about being in a crowded theatre. But after he said that I realized that my fears were an illusion and I let them go. Gee, I sound like the worst kind of dumb groupie, but it really was a neat experience.

When I first heard "The Distance" I thought they were some sort of electro pop band. I was very wrong. Heck, I even have a remake they did of the Sesame Street "Mahna Mahna" for my kids.

10. I always loved Cake. Now I love them more.

I saw them play in Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Summerstage a few years ago. They had De La Soul, Hackensaw Boys, Modest Mouse, and the Flaming Lips as their opening bands. The Flaming Lips put on the most incredible live show ever. Cake was really good, but they had a hard act to follow. Modest Mouse sucked. They all just stared at the floor and tried to play.

the whole band has major drug & alcohol issues. I think no one in the band has a license and they've admitted in interviews that it affects their live performances.
