Nope, no way to get teased about that name.

(from The Simpsons where Homer was pondering Bart's name and stopped at 'Eart')

11. Actually, as much as I love this name, I probably won't use it because
I think said wiseguy will use the term, "Dillwad/weed/hole" as the mean nickname.

10. cooper reminds me of that commercial...
'oh, cooper.' another woman says - and the woman who's about to go on a business trip with Cooper gets a visual of the super-seventies guy with gold chains and an open shirt, sitting on the airplane, pointing to himself with his thumbs, saying the punchline, "This guy!" (referring to the joke: What has two thumbs and loves blow jobs?)

I can't vote for any of them, sorry.

These are but three better names than your suggestions. Stop trying to be original, because your ideas are fucking horrible, and I'd hate you forever if you were my mother.

16. I spent a lot of time thinking about this...
when I was trying to come up with ideas for my daughter's name. Kids are really cruel, and if we aren't going to at least give ours a fighting chance, then what's the point?

We ended up deciding on Emily--simple, pretty, and fairly impenetrable. The best I have been able to come up with so far is "Smemily," which doesn't actually mean anything...

What about Thatcher?

You might need to take a little vacation in GD if this place is stressing you out that much.

I just want my kid or kids to have classic, slightly unusual names. Names with panache, and a little quirk. I've been told that may make people think my male kids are geeky. Well, maybe. I'm trying to lessen the chances that my kid will get called a geek by the likes of the Lounge. Hence, the poll.

41. Is there a reason for sticking your kid with a surname for a first name?
And of all of those, 'Halsey' is the least bad (but only because you can call him "Hal" for short).

46. To each their own, I suppose...
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 07:35 PM by Spider Jerusalem
I don't see anything very 'regal' about some of them ('Cooper' means 'barrelmaker', for instance). More to consider than just the way it sounds or looks; what does it MEAN? What history does it have? What cultural connotations? ('Halsey' will probably make people think of Admiral William Halsey.) Some cultures believe that names have power, but if they do, it's because of all the associations they carry, not in and of themselves.
