I grew up in north NJ and always looked avidly for crocuses and other first signs of Spring. It's still my very favorite time of year and I know exactly how you feel.

Do you know what those little white flowers in the second picture are called? I always loved them and remember picking them in the woods as a child, but I can't remember what their name is.

The flowers are Claytonia virginica, also known as "spring beauties" or "fairy spuds." I should have remembered, but always thought "spring beauties" was a child's made-up name for them and not real.

They are always the first flowers, sometimes even in the snow.:)
