Building a good rep really pays off sometimes
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 06:37 PM by Prisoner_Number_Six
For some reason I've gotten a reputation among my clients as being a really nice guy (go figure!). One of my clients is the ex-boss of a guy who now manages a brake shop, and she sent me to him and told him how helpful and nice I was to her. I've since had my machine serviced by him a couple times, and for whatever reason he's taken a liking to me- I urgently needed new tires and u-joints to keep my car on the road, so I took it to his shop yesterday. He knew I was low on funds, so without telling me in advance he put all new tires on for me AT COST, and the only labor he billed me for was the u-joint install. Thanks to his generosity I came in just under budget. That was an incredible favor for me, and I know he did it because of my reputation for helping others when they need it.

All I can say is, from now on he gets his computer work done gratis.

Make 'em like you, and it will pay off one day. I guess today was my day. :bounce:

I am rebuilding my engine and it seems that everywhere I go someone is trying to soak me for an extra dollar her and there. The machine shop that I had clean and prep the block was supposed to pressure test the Cylinder Head and quote me parts for valves, lifters and followers. What they did was dismantle my head, tell me it would cost $300 over my budget to rebuild (which is what I expected AND why I requested a parts quote, not an inspection).

End result? $47 for a head inspection, $47 for a pressure test and they told me what was wrong with it. The problem is, when I took it in I told them what was wrong with it and just asked for a price quote. When I confronted the shop manager his machinist said that he would take off the inspection but would charge me for a cylinder hone on the engine block (which I was told by the salesman was included in the cost), to the tune of (you guessed it), $47.

Glad you got a good one, I wish I was as lucky.

2. One's honor is a precious asset
that needs to be treasured. It can be lost in a heartbeat if not carefully guarded.

Congratulations! Persist in your good name and reputation and you will be rewarded in life ten times over.

:applause:
