1. Question

I saw a story that seemed to indicate that they aren't planning to do the projected third trilogy after all. Is this true?

There's not much more to know/tell.

3. I've heard about it and to my knowledge they aren't...

Still, when Lucas wants money he'll whip out his tiny lightsaber and dangle it in front of an audience that will readily buy anything with the Star Wars trademark on it...

Except for the 1978 Holiday Special or the original, unmolested Trilogy of course. Those are Taboo, especially on Naboo...

4. If they watched the craptacular 1st and 2nd, they'd never make it to 6.

4,5, and 6 at least set up a reason to wonder why Darth V. ended up like that, and why Luke and Leia were separated.

I think the whole franchise is pretty crappy, as far as franchises go--I wish Peter Jackson had done it, because the story itself and the characters are good. The hokey dialogue and direction make me want to kill someone. George Lucas is the Suck King of writing and direction.

His ideas are good though--I mean, I love Indiana Jones and it's because though he came up with the story, they gave it to actual professionals to write and direct.

But I've seen them all except 3 (I fell asleep on 2, on HBO). Under duress.

III isn't half bad - definitely loads better than I and II combined.

Heck, I and II have nothing tangible to offer and fare better once you've seen the others. III-VI are good enough.

III sets things up for Vader and all very nicely - yet spoils the big shockers presented in V and VI. (namely the family relation and all that.)
