6. La Cucaracha

La cucaracha, la cucaracha
Ya no puede caminar
Porque no tiene, porque le falta
Marijuana que fumar.

(The cockroach, the cockroach
Now he can't go traveling
Because he doesn't have, because he lacks
Marijuana to smoke.)

10. After a lengthy search of half the boxes in the second garage
I finally located "1500 California Place Names" on top of the desk 10 feet from my bed.

The original word is "kukamonga," it's Gabrielino Indian in origin, and the meaning is unknown.

12. I'd guess the 'racha' part is 'roach', which means the 'cuca'
must be the 'cock'. 'Monga' perhaps shares a root with 'humongous', and 'rancho' must be 'ranch'.

So I'm guessing that Rancho Cucamonga must be 'The ranch of the humongous cocks'.

:)

16. The folklore version or the actual etymology?
'Cause "1500 California Place Names" is now on my night stand with the rotary cutter, maglite, Harry Potter DVD, and "Birds of Europe."

21. Damn.
I have two friends that went to college there, and I was hoping to have some new material to harass them.

So much for that plan.

22. That's the one
The real etymology is Gabrielino Indian, and it's of uncertain meaning.

Probably pervy.

24. Glendale's pervy
Eric Idle implied as much, at least.

She likes games, eh? Likes games? Knew she would, she's been around a bit, eh? She's been around?

Well, she has travelled, yes. She's from Glendale.

Say no MORE! Glendale, squire? Say no more! Say no more! Say no more! Say no more!

(From "Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl.")
