Is Anyone Else Looking For Worse Storms This Year?
That cyclone in Australia certainly doesn't bode well, does it.

Pretty soon Florida and the gulf coast may not be habitable. Wouldn't that be an interesting turn of events?

Only people with RV's that they can move out of the storm path will be able to live there?

This ole earth may just be getting ready to let us all have it bigtime. And I can't say as I blame her.

1. We Gulf Coast residents don't need to look for storms.
They have a way of finding us.

I live far enough inland that even a STRONG one would just cause minor damage & power outages in my neighboorhood. But it sure was stressful watching all those fellow Houstonians stuck in the giant traffic jam!

5. I'll bet.
I know what it is like when tornadoes touch down near here. We are all affected.

And torandoes are nothing compared to those huge hurricanes.

2. Am driving to OK late April-early May--hoping to get good photos, BUT...
Sure hope not ending up under a freeway overpass while going for the photo-op :)

3. Don't use a freeway overpass for shelter
from a tornado it's been proven to be the worse place to be, things get sucked out of them. you're better off finding a ditch and lying flat.

4. Thanks...already know that :-)
Grew up in OK...had mega tornado drills and education.

Was just joking about seeking shelter under an overpass.

That said, will be in the nearest drainage ditch, down flat, hands covering head...

In a car or truck: Vehicles are extremely dangerous in a tornado. If the tornado is visible, far away, and the traffic is light, you may be able to drive out of its path by moving at right angles to the tornado. Otherwise, park the car as quickly and safely as possible -- out of the traffic lanes. Get out and seek shelter in a sturdy building. If in the open country, run to low ground away from any cars (which may roll over on you). Lie flat and face-down, protecting the back of your head with your arms. Avoid seeking shelter under bridges, which can create deadly traffic hazards while offering little protection against flying debris.

In the open outdoors: If possible, seek shelter in a sturdy building. If not, lie flat and face-down on low ground, protecting the back of your head with your arms. Get as far away from trees and cars as you can; they may be blown onto you in a tornado.

6. Don't stop under an overpass - wrong thing to do.
According to our weather person. The wind can suckj you right out. Need to find someplace low.

Course, if there is no where else to go - run for the overpass.
