any city on earth, worthy of a runner-up spot,
Berlin's skyline is quite impressive as well, with
the new reichstag. Moscow, saint petersburg are

Heck, with the right camera angle, even a junkyard can
look architectureally impressive. :-)

Mies van der Rohe and others wanted to build one in the 20s; Donald Trump asks about twice a year. The Senate's position is clear: people are living in the city and there's plenty of room; so please stay under 100 meters.

I'm not surprised, though. The Emerald City is gorgeous. A building never mentioned on the lists, but stunning nevertheless is the Washington Mutual Tower. With it's sandstone coloration and turqouise windows, it's absolutely breathtaking on a clear bright day.

Although Pittsburgh only has two buildings over 200m tall, its skyline is very impressive nonetheless. Pittsburgh has nicknames like the "city of bridges", "the Burgh" or the "golden triangle" which outlines its true characteristics. It is surround by three rivers and the CBD is shaped in a triangle and surrounded by golden color bridges. The city is also surrounded by hills and valley's giving access to great views of the city. The city has not had a major skyscraper raised since 1988, but good planning and a scenic surrounding region still makes it a great skyline.

I wasn't aware of the construction that has occurred there in the past ten years. Still, as an ex-New Yorker, I have a sentimental attachment to the New York skylines---New York has two skylines, one in midtown and a second downtown in the financial district.

I was there 18 months ago... they have the whole PuDong section across the river that has gone from almost nothing to Manhattan in 15 years. And, that is not even the main section of the city...

18. Hong Kong is pretty in pictures, but it's absolutely awful in person.

It's hot, smoggy, humid, noisy, dirty, old and extremely, unbelievably crowded - just masses of people moving in all directions around the clock. Not exciting or glamorous or cosmopolitan at all, just a crowded, suffocating city. Many cars use diesel fuel and the air there smells awful. That's my experience of it, anyway.

Fayetteville, AR has a beautiful skyline for its size (70,000). The way it's nestled into the Boston Mountains makes it very nice also. You can see it very well as you reach the Razorback Rd. exit on I-540.

For being as small a city as it is, not to mention the misconception people have about it being a filthy city. I took it for granted when I lived there, but the view as one exits the Fort Pitt Tunnel is pretty amazing.

a GORGEOUS skyline. I could (and often do) list all the bad things about Chicago but driving up Lake Shore Drive on a starry night is truly spectacular and I never tire of it.

And I know I say a lot of bad things about Chicago, but the issue this time isn't my hatred of Chicago - I just don't think it has a very interesting skyline.

And as much as I am a totaly NYC-is-the-center-of-the-world kind of guy, I think that compared to a lot of Asian cities, and Seattle and Toronto and European ones, NYC's skyline isn't very interesting, either. It's IMPRESSIVE, yes - but not visually compelling.

It's not that visually interesting as a skyline, just impressive.

And I love Seattle, Sydney, Hong Kong, as well.

But I don't know. When I'm at SummerDance or the movie night downtown, I always look up at the skyline from the park and am completely captivated by the skyline. I just love it.

In fact, for all the things I don't like about Chicago, I would be quite happy if I could magically relocate Chicago to a better location. Somewhere more temperate with interesting surroundings so I could take more exciting road trips. I've pretty much exhausted all the road trip potential around Chicago and I am freaking sick of driving past cornfields and surburban strip malls.

I spent my HS time there, and Frankfurt has no skyline to speak of (No German city has). Of course, it neither has much urbanization to speak of. An airport, a few banks and the exposition area - that's it. Ten minutes from end to end.

Okay, if you've read my posts over the years, you may know that I am sick to death of living in Chicago. Mostly because I hate the weather but there are other reasons.

HOWEVER, I will ALWAYS appreciate the beauty of Chicago's skyline.

Every summer, the city sponsors free outdoor movies all over the city. One of the parks along the lake, on the south-ish end of downtown, has a really huge screen and always attracts a big crowd. People bring food and lawn chairs pack the lawn. It's hard to hear and really crowded (and usually hot) but even so it's quite fun.

Well one of the best parts of the evening is when the movie is halfway done (everyone has arrived and settled in but none of the early leavers are gettting pack up yet). If you look up, past the movie screen and throngs of people, the view is absolutely spectacular. The glittering skyline seems to protectively surround the park, but you don't feel hemmed in because Lake Michigan is on one side. If the stars are visible it's even more gorgeous. I get chills just thinking about it.
