The Who's "Who Are You," FCC rules, etc.....
OK. W/ all the FCC fines lately and the long running bleeping of rap songs, how is it that "Who Are You" can get played with the "Tell me who the fuck are you" line intact?

Am I hearing it wrong? Something I'm missing? That is what Daltry sings there, right?

Just wondering.....

2. I understood that the deal is that someone has to complain to the FCC
Bleeping occurs when a label/station/conglomco caves in and censors before a complaint is made. But I could be way wrong. Radio Lady, are you out there?!

4. One last kick. If not for me,
won't you please think of the children? What if they were to hear this fucking song on the radio?

5. White Fang's Who Site says this about that:
"The MCA (USA) single of "Who Are You" is a shorter version of the song and features a lyric change to, "Who the hell are you..." (versus the common lyrics). On the MCA (USA) white-label promo of the LP, the title track has the word, "fuck" censored."

I have heard both of these versions played on the radio, I guess it depends on which DJ is playing, but in more recent years it seems that the "fuck" version gets played almost exclusively. I haven't heard the "hell" version in ages.

6. I've heard the f-word censored in years past,
but hear it unscenored in the last what, 7-8 yrs it seems.

Is that what you are hearing or do you hear the censored? If not, then how can it be played, seeminly nationwide, without fear of fines? Any ideas?

8. The last few times I have heard it, "fuck" was clearly audible, to me, but
...maybe the people who are in charge of these things aren't listening very closely. It's not as clearly enunciated as it is in Harry Nillsson's "You're Breaking My Heart" but it is definitely there. Or maybe they just think that after 27 years, we've all heard it so much that what's the point any more of censoring it. By the way, a few years back I heard a version of "Play That Funky Music" by Wild Cherry that had the "white boy" cut out, they just sang, "Play that Funky Music"

7. Inconsistent standards...
One day, within about an hour, I heard Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" played and the song Kid Rock did with Sheryl Crow (I forget the name).

How many times does Clapton say cocaine? A whole fucking bunch, especially since it was the longer Crossroads version. Meanwhile, in the other song Kid Rock has a line stating, "getting high on whiskey and cocaine." That was bleeped out. I mean, what the fuck? Personally, I feel that cocaine is safe to play on the radio and I love both songs, but why can Clapton say it and Kid Rock can't?
