Weird cat behaviours

I read a book many years ago discussing the necessity of taking your pets to a psychiatrist so that they could diagnose their psychological needs.
Now while I found that a little "too much", my cats do have some peculiar behaviours.
For instance:
Bosco likes to sleep on top of a Bratz (barbie-type doll).
He drags it around by the hair and then lays on top of it.
I'm pretty sure that I don't want to know why he does this.
Finnegan sleeps on my feet. If I recall, this was classified as "abandonment issues" in this book.
Now Tabitha. She is my favorite cat. She is about 17 years old.
She hates the other cats. She sleeps on my pillow above my head.
Every morning she likes to look out the window, and will claw the blinds down if you don't open them. After she looks out the window, she likes to be pet for about 15-20 minutes.
This morning I was tired, so I only pet her 5 min and then was going back to sleep. She got mad and bit me on the boob.
Cats are creatures of habit.
I hope she doesn't make that a habit.:ouch:

2. Midnight and Tabitha sound a like.

Midnight is 13. Hates all other animals and, up until her biggest near-death experience, hated all people but me. Basically, she got lost in a blizzard for two weeks and dropped from 8 to 6 lbs, but came home otherwise fine, but with a new outlook on life. My sister referred to it as, "some people find Jesus. Your cat almost died and found people." Regardless, she always sleeps on my pillow. She allows other cats to sleep on the bed with me, but if they do, a major fight will occur over my face if a subordinate cat tries to move beyond my waist on the bed.

Guess what? Waking up to a major cat fight taking place over your face sucks hairy donkey balls. I pretty much grabbed the two by their scruffs and tossed them in a wall. They were unfazed and the fight continued throughout the apt. Twenty minutes later, they came back and resumed their regular positions on the bed. Midnight just had to take Ginsberg out back for a "chat."

3. If anything can convince me that evolution is nonsense

it's cat behaviour.

Can we really say a species that runs under your feet trying to trip you while you're carrying hot drinks is the result of "survival of the fittest"?

Ditto rolling around in stray cat litter for no less than twenty minutes a day. I thought cats were supposed to be clean and finicky.

But I guess the weirdest behavior is the racism and homophobia. My cats *hate* Chinese people. If they hear Chinese spoken in the hallway they will run and hide. They'll come out and sniff at my Western guests but will hide from Chinese ones. I think they were poked and prodded a bit too much in kittenhood (and when I got them they'd had their whiskers cut off for some reason that never made sense to me.)

Also, if I watch anything with gay people in it they'll pull the TV plug out of the socket. I thought it was just a coincidence that every time I tried to watch "Queer as Folk" they'd pull out the cord but then I tried to watch "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" and they did the same thing. They ignore every other thing I watch.

If I didn't know better, I'd say my cats were Republicans.

5. Cats are THE BEST

whoever thought up cats did me a huge favor! They rock and they are mischevious and demanding and loving and mine act like kids. They talk back when you tell them no and they tell on each other if one of them is into something they shouldn't be.

(to the poster above re: cats run when they hear Chinese-:rofl: , mine hate any man who wears a coat, a coat is a sign of danger in case you didn't know. If the man takes the coat off however everything is cool.)

8. My cat Domino has gone nutso

Domino is the one eyed black and white long haired cat that I found about two months ago. She has since staked out the bathroom as her territory. She sleeps in the bathroom sink, watches everyone when there taking a bath or a shower, and now she is jumping on peoples' lap when were "using" the potty. Is that weird or what?

18. multiply that x 4 and you have MY bathroom. Cats love it when

they have you trapped.

On the up side, my siamese mix taught himself to pee in the toilet from close observation of the humans in the household.

Has she crawled down the pants leg when they are down around your ankles yet? If not, she still has a way to go to catch up with mine.

They lick the shower every morning after I take my shower, too.

9. My cats think I'm nuts.

I've been trying to get my grandmother to do Tai Chi because I think the gentle movement will help her to be more mobile. Anyway, all the cats come into the room and just stare at us like we are out of our minds for the entire time.

There are outside cats in the neighborhood who come and sit on the ledge outside my windows. When my one cat sees them, she goes nuts and starts throwing herself at the glass and then stops and just claws at it. Cat claws against glass is NOT a pleasant sound.

12. Longwood Gardens uses cats as pest control

In spite of signs urging the guests not to socialize with the cats, it happens anyway. We were building a set on the stage at the outdoor theater, and one of the Pest Controllers came over to where the Stage Manager was sitting, and presented him with a rat - fortunately, the SM was unfazed. During the performance of "Iolanthe" that night, the cat wandered out on stage, and sat for a while, watching the show.

At intermission, when I asked my SO how he liked it (he HATES G&S), he said "when does the cat come back on?"

Our own home cat climbs up on the table, puts her front leg on the chairback, and yells at my SO. If he turns away from her, she swats him. They have a strange relationship. She bites us on Saturday mornings, when we're not up at 6 to entertain her.

But not on the boob.

13. I had a cat that used to suck my finger, and one that loved to crawl under

newspapers and sleep. I don't know how he got his newspaper fetish, but he absolutely loved them.

24. Mine love plastic grocery bags.

It doesn't matter how small they are, my male cat will climb inside and sit waiting for me to pick him up and carry him around. He loves being swung back and forth in one.

They also love to turn the washing machine on (it has flat buttons) and then sit on it. It wastes a lot of water so I ended up having to keep thick books balanced over the controls.

29. My kitty is terrified of plastic grocery bags.

When she hears one rattle, she runs away. When I realized her fear, I started rattling a bag to keep her off the dining table when we're eating.

17. Is there any such thing as "normal" cat behavior?

The first week we had our cat (my first cat ever), I called the vets office and talked to the receptionist.

"I think something is wrong with her -- she's arching her back and puffing up her tail, and hopping around sideways. Do you think she's epileptic or something?"

"Is this your first cat?"

"Yeah...."

"I thought so."

19. My cat Molly

does a couple of weird things. Their is this gray, fuzzy toy she likes to carry in her mouth and then she'll drop it and start howling. She'll also sit on the clock radio in the bathroom and sometimes turn on the radio.

follows me around all day. If my husband goes to bed first and kisses me goodnight, she cries and eeeps if he doesn't scratch her head

Our other cat expects anyone that gets up to stir the food in his dish.

22. My cat 'sings' to his girlfriend, the string

Pugsley seems to be in love with this long piece of string/ribbon I originally bought as a cat toy. He likes to drag it around the house and tuck it into my bed at night. When he is all alone in my room he just stands over it and meows and meows. I have no idea what thought he's trying to get across to Ms. String! :shrug:

23. If Milo feels ignored, he says "Eeeep!" and launches himself at my torso,

so I have to catch him and carry him around for awhile.

25. Sleeping on the pillow!

My old cat used to sleep above my head on my pillow. She would put her chin on my head and purr. Fell asleep instantly. Man I miss her.

27. My Oldest Cat

Elmo, despised the new cat in the house nearly 5 years ago. One night I got tired of trying to service two separate spaces for them to sleep, and I was encouraged by a friend to let them bunk--and fight it out.

She was right. After a couple of days, the cats learned to bunk in the same room, and while they occasionally want to stay out late (w/moi), they are used to their routine of having a bedtime snack and sleep by 9 CDT.

28. My cat Miranda

is in love with the humidifier. She wraps her paws around the intake and output vents and causes the motor to change pitch. Then she attacts the reservoir whenever it gurgles. Then she spins it around until it's pushed right up against the wall, with the cord wrapped tightly around the base. I have to keep the reservoir as full as possible, otherwise she tips it over.

Her sister Miranda couldn't care less...

30. Merlin, a very large kitty, needs to lay in the center of the living room

floor on his back...airing his belly.

He also sits at MrG's feet and says hello everyday when he comes in from work. He will continue to say "hello" until MrG acknowledges him.

He kicks the dog out of the dog bed every morning by beating the crap out of her face.

He stealthily works his way up the bed from our feet to our faces when he thinks we are finally asleep. He sleeps "holding" MrG's hand...

...he's a crazy boy.

31. my cat pulls the drain plugs out of every sink in the house

and when I come home from work I find them on the floor. She works very hard at her job.

She also takes my jewelry from my jewelry box in my bedroom one piece at a time and hides them under the bathroom rug. I will come home from work with a pile under the rug. I figure if she had opposable thumbs she would have been out the door and at the pawn shop.
