Good Tuesday Morning, Crew!
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 05:51 AM by Clintmax

:donut::hi:
How are you today? I'm glad you're here with me this morning! :bounce: I hope your Monday wasn't TOO bad. Mine was pretty easy going since I didn't have to work! I do today of course. In fact, it was supposed to be another of those 6:00am starts, but our freight company called and he isn't going to be there until later, so I don't have to be there until 9!

So let's get this day started, shall we? And let's make a good one! :bounce:

but it always gets warmer during the day. Like we're going to have sunny skies and 76 degrees today, and sunny skies and 79 tomorrow! :bounce::woohoo: Up into the 80's the rest of the week! Just at night...it gets chilly out there.

Warm nights aren't far away...just have to wait a little longer.

8. Good to see you too Clintmax
I am glad to be back on posting. The meet-up I had to go yesterday was mostly boring. But I got a couple of tips how to do something with the program that I didn't know.

Oh, and the guy from London, he called me also Sunday night. :woohoo: Was the best sign that he still likes me after I was there. Because he also told me that if a guy isn't interested, he isn't calling. And he did call :bounce: (OK, I repeat myself here).

And there is a pile of books waiting to be cataloged.

65. I know how it feels
in my previous job there was a time when I hated going to work. I hated getting up in the morning. Even though I tried to act normal with the customers some of them told me later that they saw that I wasn't happy. My boss back then was an ass and kinda mobbed me. Not bad but enough for me not to feel good. He was kicked out (long story) and after that I enjoyed working there again.

he acted like he was the big boss (which he wasn't). Coming in at 8.10am or later in the morning, taking a 2 hour lunch break (I only had 30 min) and then acting up when I showed up at work at 8.05am. And making a deal out of it by showing up ebfore 8am the next days to see if I was there at 8am latest. And that was a private school and during holidays, so no students :eyes:

I was really relieved when he was fired. Even though the way he got fired wasn't of the nice kind.

I have lunch break now of half an hour at least but I can take a longer one. I only have to clear it up with my boss that one of us is here at 1pm when the library opens again. Of course if I take a longer lunch break it goes off my working time and I have to work longer to get my hours. Or just use some of the overtime I saved.

29. Good morning, Clint
Just up, doing some writing. Figure I'll stay up all night, write a paper for a class and then meet with my professor this afternoon etc.

At least you have a little time before you have to go to work!

So did you get a chance to do a little writing? Here is my latest, barely edited and very rough. Lots of work to do on it before I would ever call it finished though. :)

I am a ninja stealthily weaving
Inside the enemy’s lines

A light-skinned heathen
Invisible to the world

Nobody knows who I am
Unless I tell them

“A Blackfeet Indian,” I say
To bewildered looks

“You look so white” a Mexican
Once told me

The exact opposite of an apple
White on the outside
Red
On the inside

Sometimes I feel like a fraud
A mixed blood crusader

Like a comical anthropologist wearing a backpack
And a “Frybread Power!” t-shirt

Should I grow myself a ponytail?
Tell pissy coyote stories?

Oh, hell, this guy can’t write about Indians
He isn’t even one

Look how white he is! Look! He glows!
So how will I defend my glowing self?

Some white people think I’m an Indian
Others don’t even know it
I’m
Not sure which bothers me more

Some Indian people think I’m white
Others know but don’t care

I wish I could have it stamped on my forehead
At times I wish I could hide it
But, every good Indian has tried quitting before
Sort of like crack and beer

Once being an Indian grips you tightly
The phenomenon can’t be stopped

So I’m an Indian weaving in the white world
Far from my reservation

My stealth consistent for years and years
In both worlds
Nobody
Seems to know who I am

Not even me

33. Hail, Bill!
:hi:
Good to see you today, Man! :bounce: I haven't had a chance to write yet, but I do have this story line rolling around my head that I'd like to have on paper. It's just a matter of starting. I wonder if writing an outline first would help me? Usually, I just start writing and let it flow out of me as I go along.

That a very interesting poem! And, one I can identify with!

72. It depends
I think writing an outline helps if you want to be serious and write something publishable or that you would like to do something with. However, if you just want to write for writing's sake, sit down and let the words flow. Sometimes that works pretty well too. I'd say try letting it flow and then take it from there. If you feel you need to clean it up, write an outline and go back and rewrite it all from that structure.

Lots of people can identify with that concept. Who we are is often invisible. In my case, I am an enrolled Blackfeet Indian from a reservation, except I look white. People usually don't know, although some do, especially when I'm tanned. (ironically, I live in sunny Arizona, but am whiter than ever because it's too hot for me to go and tan outside, haha) But in other cases, people may have something else that makes them different. Would others treat me different if they knew I was Indian? Maybe. Would others treat somebody different if they were told they were gay? Lots of times, yes. How about this one..... what if somebody on DU came out and said they were really a Republican? Would they be treated different if they said they were a Bush voter, even if on some issues they actually agreed with a lot of us? I would say yes, they would. At least by some people. Until then though, they were invisible, for the most part.

I guess I am interested in things like that. How people feel, what they think. Little instances in life that others never take note of. I liken it to Jim Jarmusch, the filmmaker, who once said, and I'm paraphrasing, "Most filmmakers will show a guy walking out of his house, and then cut to him reaching his destination, they don't show what happened in between, well, I'm interested in the in between." That's like me, writers often write about certain events that happen in peoples lives. Something big, like a drug addiction, car wreck, death of someone, a fistfight, a great romance or something along those lines. That's fine, but I'm interested in what's happening when none of those things are happening. I like considering how we feel in our most lonely uneventful moments. That seems to me when we are at our most raw and vulnerable. It fascinates me.

80. Hmmm...interesting...
I've started my story a couple of times and I think maybe an outline would help me not go astray with it. I can think a lot faster than I can type, so sometimes I get frustrated when my thoughts are way far ahead of my hands. That's when I stop writing and try to go back to it later. Of course, by then, I've forogtten where I wanted to go with it next. x(

84. oh definitely
in that case, make the outline. It will help put it all into perspective. I'm like that, in order to create a story I have to have at least some kind of outline. Not necessarily so if I'm writing a poem or something nonfiction, but for creative prose, I need structure. :)

87. If I'm stumped
I look at the work of a few writers that I like to read, such as Sherman Alexie, Gabriel Garcia Marquez or T.C. Boyle. People who are short story specialists. I check out structure, and emulate how they go about it. Not copy the story or ideas or anything like that. I look at how they begin a story, utilize description, how they end it, the basic structure that maybe they might teach if you took a workshop they were putting on. So once I have an idea about the structure, I'll write an outline that fits my own idea of structure for my particular piece. It's a good tool, both the utilization of the structure of great writer's work and making your own outline. :)

We've just wasted an hour on a team meeting from which I learnt absolutely nothing.

51. It wasn't too bad - except that it was a total waste of time....
My main problem is that the manager is actually in my office - one of my usual office-mates gave birth yesterday, thus leaving a spare desk for him to borrow today.

So when I am on here I have to be a tad bit discrete.

We don't have internet access at my store so I don't have to worry about that...I wish we did though. Is he going to stay at that desk the whole time she's out with her new baby? I hope not!

66. Goodness no - he's based at the other end of the country.
He's just down here for today and will go back soon enough - just a bit of a pain whilst he's here though.

That said, the useless temp who is covering her maternity leave may well start to sit at her desk - which means that we can't really say rude things about him all day. :evilfrown:

103. I took her everywhere with me for 5 years. Hotels are strange about pets.
Some places allow pets with restrictions - like the dogs must be under 40 pounds.

I would love to take Frodo cross country with me but I don't want to expose her to a potential virus or stress to her health in air conditioned rooms. I don't know how well she would sleep in a campground.
Sometimes it is best to leave parts of our family at home. :(

I just wonder how Tony would do on a long trip in the car. He loves to ride...but he gets to where he wants to be in the front seat with me and tries to jump over the seat. I think I would have to cover the back seat with plastic and then a blanket in case of little accidents.

That's not going to happen. I think you got caught in the leading edge of the swimboy breakfast and travel to work transition vacuum (the s.b.a.t.t.w.t.v.). It is similar to how I have to dry my own tears and factor in your lunch times (which seem to fall at very odd times from the point of view of one not on the Prime Meridian).
