A smell is coming from my PC (I think)- should I be worried?
My husband thought it might be cat pee, but to me it smelled a little like burnt coffee...

I am trying to find out exactly where the smell is coming from, but only notice it when the computer is on. It is faint, but noticeable- especially since I sit at the PC so much.

Does anybody have any ideas? Is this dangerous? What should I do? We got a very hairy cat about 2 1/2 months ago...

I just got down on the floor and sniffed around... it doesn't seem to be coming from my hard drive... could it be the spaghetti tangle of cords? It is weird.

4. do you think it might be dirty or something worse...
I can shoot some compressed air on it and see what happens. Would you advise that I shut down the PC before doing this?

Thanks.

5. If your computer is close to the floorlike mine is..and you have a new pet
maybe the shedding fur has gotten inside the vents. I was shocked when I opened mine..had to vac the thing it was pretty gross with yellow lab fur..not to mention the amount of dust that had collected.

I've had a mental block (I think) about that since my previous cat passed away so suddenly. But I think I am ready now!

9. beautiful kitty..
WOW..that's long fur. I had a long hair..but his wasn't that long. He wasn't exactly good at grooming..the female we had used to keep him looking nice..and if I tried to brush him the brush would end up on the opposite side of the room. He had quite a good left hook.

11. oh, that's funny!
(and thanks)

When we got her she had some big knots on her belly... no amount of effort can get those out. I think we will probably get her shaved (a "Lion Cut") in early summer so we can get get rid of the knots and keep her cool. She likes to be brushed, but darts away when I approach her so it's difficult to pin her down. She hasn't tried to slap me yet!

14. It surprising how strong their little paws can be.
As time goes on I'm betting she'll be more comfortable and won't be so skittish when you approach her. You've only had her what..2 months or so?

Good luck with the shaving..I've heard about it but never had it done. I think my Sir Tom would have royally kicked my heiney if I'd done that to him..you know..his male dignity and all. When you get it done..make sure to post pics.

17. tee hee- thanks!
We will shave her, but I am a little worried about the aftermath (her reaction- as in peeing out of the box).

She was dumped by her prior owner (I was told) because she started to pee on the carpet.. however, that was after they'd declawed her and neutered her at the same time! I figured that sent her over the edge, and we adopted her anyway. Well, she started peeing out of the box on my (hairy) rug and also peed 2X on my sofa! UGH. I'll skip over the tail (tee hee- pun intended) and just say she has been using her box faithfully for a while now. So, my only concern about shaving her is that she may get upset, and leave me a "present" somewhere. Ah well.

I have had a cat shaved before- he seemed to like it. But then I noticed he had a big fat sack that had been hidden under all the fur, and lots of nipply bumps!

18. I'm so glad you took her in..
and glad she's been using her box. Being fixed and declawed at the same time had to be traumatic for the poor girl. Hopefully once warm weather comes, she'll appreciate being cooler.

13. tee hee- I wish it were that.
I leave my PC on all the time, but since I've concluded that's probably the source of the smell I will shut it down when I leave.
