1. Movies: Stewie Griffin - The Untold Story.
Specifically, the Wilford Brimley commercial and Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm-flailing Tube Man part.

Food: Ramen noodles.

Activities: *ahem* Or at least think about the last time.

2. Walking helps me the most.
It helps clear my head. Before I got into that I'd use food to dull the pain. But exercise is much better. For movies, any good comedy helps. I need to get Robin Williams standup routine on DVD, his HBO special.
For food, ice cream and chocolate.

Welcome to DU!

3. I like to watch light, funny movies if I'm feeling down.
For foods, COMFORT foods are the way to go for me: mac and cheese, PB&J sammiches, chicken noodle soup.

Activities: That's the hardest one, because if I'm really down, I don't want to do much of anything, but when I can give myself a swift kick in the behind, I might get on the internet and read the goofy posts in the Lounge, or play computer games, or take my dog out and play ball with her.

4. hmmm....
You mean to say that food, movies and music aren't medical items? Go figure. ;)

I love the movie Waking the Dead, which will only make you more depressed. Being a white male in my 20's, Led Zeppelin is a stereotypical favorite when I break up with someone.

5. Caesar salad and Rainman
First I walk the dog, which means an hour in the woods, I then make a huge caesar salad with fried chicken strips, carrots, cheese, tomatoes and watch Rainman. I know Tom Cruise is bad right now, but I just love that movie.

7. What makes YOU feel better? What kind of things do you like to do?
Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 06:39 PM by Beaverhausen
When I'm depressed the best thing for me is to call a friend and vent. Do you have any friends you can call?

Also...go out (or stay in) and do the things you like to do. Pamper yourself.

For instance: Take a nice luxurious bath with bubbles and candles. Go buy a half gallon on Ben & Jerrys and eat as much as you can. Go shopping for new shoes/earrings/clothes. Get out your most favorite book and start reading.

You will get through this. I know it's hard now but have faith in yourself.

12. This is an especially important time to be good to yourself.
Here's what I do:

Take hot baths,
curl up with a good book,
call a trusted friend,
have a good cry,
go out into nature and get my feet moving,
write in my journal,
listen to uplifting music,
watch funny comedies,
laugh and Lighten Up,
catch up on my sleep,
do some yoga,
play with my kids

and most importantly of all: Trust and Remember that this, too, shall pass....Everything changes.

14. I see you're in LA, so
I'm going to suggest a long walk up in Runyon Canyon park (off of Mulholland). The views are amazing and you can chose either a wide asphalt path or actual hiking.

I also enjoy heading down to Malibu, finding a beach that's off the beaten path (off the PCH, for pete's sake, get away from all the people), toss the shoes aside and go for a barefoot walk on the beach.

If you want directions to either place, feel free to PM me.

They've got the best meatloaf, the best garlic mashed potatoes and the best beer, barnone.

Then I go home and watch my DVD of The Ben Stiller Show, the first and only season. Guaranteed to cheer me up!

Edited on Wed Mar-29-06 08:54 PM by Iniquitous Bunny
1-2 beers, indie film, sex, more sex, maybe ice cream, possibly another indie film, and if my SO is still alive- more! By that point, I've usually forgotten what was even wrong- EVER!

After visiting with someone who's dying (in the hospital), I needed some time to walk and cry. It was healing - and good for me, too.
