5:10 PM Eastern time.
Time for a glass of chardonnay while I prepare dinner.

(ha, ha, I ALREADY made dinner, in the crock pot, so I get to drink without doing a damned thing)

6. Well, I have YOU to thank!
That subscription to Cook's Illustrated was the single best purchase this year. Including jewelry, appliances, food.

It has so many fantastic recipes in the magazine and online.

This month's issue has a great article about London Broil and how to pick the meat, which is fantastic for me because I don't know one end of the cow from the next.

11. Aren't those ~great?!~
I love how they not only give recipes but genuinely useful information on techniques, ingredients and equipment.

I don't think it's on the Foodnetwork, but they also sponsor a television show called "America's Test Kitchen." Equally excellent, -check your local PBS stations to see if they show it.

12. The technique stuff has been incredible.
I can follow a recipe, but the technique stuff has really turned my cooking from average, ordinary to really, really good. I can't thank you enough to turning me onto that magazine/web site. I just renewed for another 3 years!!!!!

8. Let me tell, you, CP
Between my FIL, the kids, the dog, work, volunteering, housework, etc., it's a miracle I don't start drinking when I get out of bed.

Not that it is a cure all or anything. I'm just playing.

Two weeks ago, I made a fantastic from scratch mac and cheese from Cook's Illustrated, the magazine SO recommended. It took a while because it was a new recipe and assembling the ingredients...you get the drift. Well, it needed to go under the broiler for about 3 minutes to brown the topping.

FIL comes up and starts asking me about his upcoming trip, do I have his money, where are his pills? etc., etc., etc.,

Next thing I know the kitchen is full of black smoke and when I try to retrieve the pan from the less than a year old oven, I slipped and bit and dumped half of it in the back of the oven.

Needless to say, I was not pleased.
