Please help with this! NSMA needs DUers good vibes especially today!

She called me fairly early this morning (5:00AM California time) to tell me that her mother was back in the hospital with her second heart attack...she is still in ER waiting to be moved into ICU.

NSMA has been her Mom's primary care giver for awhile...and after her wreck this is just shoving her over the edge.

Please think good thoughts for her today; if anyone here has her cell number she will be checking her voice messages throughout the day while trying to catch some naps at the hospital---

37. Home for a brief nap..Steph called me

My mother is critical but stabilized..however they are using dopamine to get her bp up...it had fallen to 50/25...not sure if there is end organ damage or not..this appears to have been triggered by an infection which caused a fall the other morning which caused severe pain which cause the MI...I've promised myself I won't crack up today but in order to do that I need to sleep for the first time in 28 hours

52. UPDATE: I am getting ready to go back to the hospital

My mother is being kept alive by the dopamine which is keeping her blood pressure up but her organs are all functioning. That much is good but it's all wait and see.

The genuine care and concern of those who were real in expressing it is appreciated.

This has, by far, been some of the most difficult months in my life to date. It's been hard. Fucking hard.

And it's been cathartic. Today makes one year to the day that there has been a war between my mother and myself over some of my choices in life. It wasn't her place to start that war with me and it wasn't a "just war" but it was a war nonetheless. And it was a war that was not really worth it on my end either.


I love my mother but she has been very cruel, controlling and demanding with me over the course of my life. I've always wanted to work those differences and that dynamic out through love but it became impossible over the last year...I came to a place in my heart where I questioned whether I loved her or hated her.

I simply pledged to myself that I would not abandon her in her old age in spite of that cruelty. It has nearly killed me (and I do mean literally killed me) to live up to that but no matter what happens...I have kept my word. When I say I will be there for those I love most, I can count on myself for that much.

I got her to ER solely by accident last night. I went to check on her in her sleep...touched her and was clear she was feverish. It was providence that I did.

The ten hours we spent in ER last night were filled with peace and communication. I am complete with her. I am confronting her demise.


While some may see some "codependent" or other conceptual dynamic in that, I view it as a level of integrity where one stands for love even in the absolute worst of conditions. In spite of what anyone may think...it's something I appreciate about me. I may not always keep my word and I may have failings...but when push comes to shove, my love and devotion can be taken to the bank in spite of my character flaws.

70. NSMA, I was in similar straits last Oct/Nov. I'd just had surgery when

my mom became ill.

Knowing i had so very many friends supporting me gave me tremendous relief of the burden.

75. UPDATE: She has sepsis

She developed a urinary tract infection sometime last weekend. My mother is insulin dependent so any infection is an opportunistic infection.

She is on medication for high blood pressure that was hard on her kidneys which when combined with the sepsis caused her to collapse from fever, dehydration and lack of kidney function.

When she collapsed last monday night she hurt her shoulder and was given pain meds (which my mother never takes). This combined with the severe left shoulder pain masked the heart attack she was having on Thursday evening...like I said..thank god I went to check on her

She has now been moved from ICU and was weaned off the dopamine and her kidneys appear to be functioning. She is being treated for the sepsis which is still life threatening and the Echocardiogram showed no new damage to her heart muscle...although she does have loss of pumping function from the three heart attacks this past January..but the stents and balloon placed then are still in place


Sooooooo...we're down to one life threatening condition instead of 3. The tricky thing is finding the antibiotic that will deal with it since she has already been on broad spectrum anti-biotics so they are becoming less effective.

Thanks again for your prayers....back to the hospital for me after feeding the cats and walking the dog...then tonight...a hot bath...a hot chocolate and bed...

She is improving today. The heart attack was minor and all is well. The infection is being treated and she is eating, retaining fluids as she should and flushing them..so her kidneys are working

This morning at 6 am (which was actually 5 am) I woke to the sound of water. I thought it was raining hard. Looked outside the window and saw blue skies..still heard water gushing...looked to the back of the yard and saw water shooting out from the pool motor like a guyser...went to shut the motor off and got soaked...couldn't shut the motor off at the pool and water was emptying from the pool...so there I am...not a grain of caffiene in me, soaked with a pool motor shooting water and flooding the yard like a guyser...shut the motor off the the breaker box on the house (after trying every other breaker and having my computer shut off and all the clocks I reset last night go off again)

I could have cracked up for "one more thing" going wrong...but I just stood there in the light of dawn cracking up at the absurdity of it all
