Is there any kind of consumer watchdog agency for doctors?

I mean, for people trying to choose a doctor. Some kind of place that keeps a record of complaints or compliments in regards to doctor's offices to give consumers a better idea of what they're getting into? Sort of like the Better Business Bureau.

I'm in the market for a new doctor. I don't know anyone who is truly happy with their current doctor and it's such a crapshoot to go see a perfect stranger about whom you know nothing. It would be nice if there were some way to at least get an idea before you make the commitment of time and money, etc.

Anyone know?

They publish a list of questionable docs from time to time, detailing the doctor's name, specialty, location, and problems such as substance abuse, improper conduct, malpractice, and even some mental health issues (such as bipolar disorder).
