Who's gonna watch "Saddam & the Third Reich" on History Channel?
"This special examines the key individuals of the Iraqi-Nazi connection, the little-known battle for Iraq in WWII, and the strange link to Saddam Hussein." :wtf:

This is something that I have never heard of before. Anybody else know of this?

1. I actually know quite a bit about it!
The Baath party was inspired by National Socialists. Interestingly, the US didn't decide to attack Iraq until Hussein started acting unlike the usual Baathist. The US generally thinks Baathists are peachy-keen...

Nazi leaders, especially Eichmann, made many efforts to get the Arab leadership on their side, and many Arab leaders (like the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem) were fans of the Nazis, if only because they didn't want Jewish refugees moving into what was then Palestine.

3. The Arabs also sympathized with the Nazis...
... because the Germans were in opposition to the British and the French who were dominating the Arab world.

A lot of anti-colonial movements looked to the Nazis and Japanese for support and the Nazis made exceptions by declaring that certain groups of people were "Aryans," including the Hindus, the Iranians, even Arabs (who are semites!).
