Would you consider living in a communal situation? Simple lives based on
agriculture and self-sufficiency.....could you? I feel like, what with peak oil and such, we need to go back to a simpler more agrarian lifestyle. I have some land and a barn. Who could do it? If not, why not?

1. I'm not real social IRL
So the idea of living with a group larger than my family unit does not appeal at all.

2. No, I couldn't do it.
I'm too much of a materialistic asshole. :silly:

No, in all seriousness. I've lived in rural areas and I've lived in big cities. I infinitely prefer the city. I know we're going to be the first to die when something goes wrong, but I'd rather go out with a bang than a fizzle. (In other words, I'd be too bored) ;)

3. i'd love to have a commune
but self sufficient agriculture is a bit of stretch. An agrarian lifestyle isn't really "simpler" no matter how it's been romanticized, and self sufficiency is not a very human trait.

4. I have a lot of friends that talked like that in college
but once they got into "The Real World ®", they realized that they really liked owning their own place, getting recognized for their individual accomplishments, etc.

Not to say that it couldn't work-- it does work, with the right group of people. However, I like my solitude at times and wouldn't be inclined to do this.

5. I could do it
I prefer the comparatively simpler life of the city, where there are restaurants and things to do, though. A commune in a city would work for me!
