1. I consider John de Lancie the Ian McDiarmid of "Star Trek"

By that, I mean an ancillary character who traipses, ever so slightly, across his respective monomyth, and ends up leaving the most glorious
f--king footprint amongst the whole lot. Really, Q is as indelible a character as Mr. Spock.

Never was much of a Borg fan, though.

3. Q isn't like Palpatine. He's not inherently evil...

He even helped Picard on occasion.

He's more like a merging of Trelane (TOS's "The Squire of Gothos" and the 7th Doctor (Doctor Who).)

And, yeah, the Borg did get tired after 'The Best of Both Worlds'...

4. My claim wasn't that their characters were analogous

"Star Trek's" Loki has little in common with "Star Wars'" Satan. What I am saying is that both performers, however secondary, managed to trounce their comparatively stolid colleagues.

My favorite Q bit: his pronunciation of the Captain's name in "Tapestry." John-Luck-Pecard.
