My brother needs a liver transplant
I just talked to my mom. This week they got a call out of the blue from my long lost brother. (I haven't seen or talked to him since about 1990.)

He doesn't know how long he'll live, so I guess he wants to reconnect with family. It's sad, he's lived such a wasted life.

3. I hope he's OK too
I don't really know him that well. He's a lot older than me. I don't ever remember him living with us except for a couple of months when I was 15. The highlight of that time was a late night chat as he downed a bottle of whiskey.

He has a son who's 17 and he hasn't seen him since he was a baby.

I just think it's sad. But it's oddly not personal to me.

7. Yvr, so sorry to hear this.
But statistically speaking, if he is able to get a liver in time, he will probably be fine. I am hoping for the best for you and your family.

8. I don't know too many of the details
My mom said his legs had really swollen up. When the doctors treated that, the fluid was mostly like urine in his body. Doesn't sound good.

10. I'm sorry to hear that, friend.
I am a hospice volunteer and I have witnessed many miracles of emotional healing, as clients have re-connected with long-lost family members. It's sad, true, that it takes a terminal condition sometimes to make it happen.

I am sending you and yours all my best wishes for Peace and Comfort at this time.

Where is your brother now? Does he have any networking/support in his life where he's living?

This is so tough...for him, you, and your family.

16. Such sad news.
But maybe it's a good thing. Maybe something good will come out of this awful situation, like building back a relationship with him.
It's never too late to start to reconnect. Despite some of the bad times, maybe for once, he wants a fresh start.

Sorry about this, yvrgirl.

17. Like literally "wasted"? Was he an alcoholic?
Is that why his liver is failing?

20. I'm sorry to hear about your brother
It would be really great if he got a transplant and turned his life around. Even if he doesn't get that chance, I hope that he will be able to use the remaining time to make peace with people and his past.

25. I hope he is able to get one.
And I hope you're able to reconnect with him in a good way.

Of course, I'm feeling very Pollyana-ish tonight.
