Does it irritate you to be called HON or other such things at work?

Poll question: Does it irritate you to be called HON or other such things at work?

I'm trying to figure out if this is a habit I should break. I call everyone (staff, not attorneys), "honey," "hon," "sweetie," "my dear," "cutie pie," etc. Never anything that would cross the line into sexual harassment.

But it's DC, not Baltimore, hon.*

So I'd like to know: If someone at your work uses terms of endearment like that with you, does it irritate you? Or upset you in some way? Please elaborate.

It all depends on how it's said. There was a guy I used to work with that I almost smacked once.

And I do it all the time, too. I'm trying to stop.

I used to call groups of folks "kids." For example I'd walk into the break room and say to the assembled, "Hi, kids." Just a greeting, right? One woman - maybe in her 50s - ripped me a new one for that, saying "I'm not a kid" etc. I wasn't trying to be inappropriate. I didn't mean to hurt her. I was very young. And I was fired from that job (for something else), and I'm sure there was rejoicing. :shrug:

I want to stop, too. But see -- I LOVE PEOPLE! And I want them to know it. What to do, what to do.

And I do it completely out of affection, too. But my four year old started calling me "honey" in public, so I figured I should stop.

2. Slightly bugs me, except when my wife does it.

I always want to be her "hon."

3. I never say those at work

and no one ever says them to me.

But when I'm out and about in the bar/club/with friends or family--

I use "babe" and "sweetie" a lot.

4. One of my guy friends at work calls me Puddin'...

And I totally love it. He's like a big brother and I love him. It makes me all tingly when he calls me that.

9. I'm not attracted to the guy or anything...

He's just a good friend. Of Course it also makes me gooey when Skip calls me Schnooger, which is a cross between Schnookums and Sugar that he made up when we first got together...But that's not at work. :evilgrin:

14. There is a sign on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, where you

cross into Baltimore. The sign sais "Welcome to Baltimore." One time when I was driving to BWI I saw that someone had tacked a big paper sign underneath. So the sign read "Welcome to Baltimore Hon." :rofl:

Because of the way things are at my job , I could be called worse .

11. I said "Other", though generally I don't mind it.

I really like the people I work with, and we all get along really well. Not that we go around calling each other "Hon" all the time, but there is an occasional term of endearment spoken now and then.

However, if someone from another office that I didn't really know did that, I wouldn't like it.

Normally it doesn't bother me, 'cause it's just what he does...no biggie.

Except for once, when I had to call him about something, he thought I was his mother.

The next time he called me whatever the endearment of the day was...I wanted to slug him.




When people who call in call me 'sweetie' or 'honey' or 'dear'...THAT annoys the shit outta me.
