Crap. I paid my credit card bill late again
I worked all day today and forgot it was due. Second month in a row. I suppose not only will they cahrge me a late fee ($35) but they will probably raise my interest rates to 30%. Only because they don't process online payments after 3 pm on Saturday until MONDAY. Double crap. I think I am going to take out a personal loan to pay this off. Better rates and a smaller payment for a set length of time.
I also have to pay my rent and utilities but can't tell if my paycheck has been deposited. I only get paid once a month and if the first falls on a weekend, I don't get paid until Monday. I hate banks. I hate credit card companies.

2. I can't believe I forget these things though
I hope they don't raise my rates too high. Guess I'll find out.

3. I have my credit card and mortgage set for auto pay
This eliminates the remembering to pay. But you do have to remember to leave enough cash in the bank account. It has worked quite well for me over the past couple of years.

4. can you get a line of credit attached to your checking acct.?
we managed to do that at our credit union. That way everything can be paid on time whether payroll matches the timing or not.

6. Oh man I feel your pain
I was late on my (minimum) payment and they charged me 35 bucks too. they gave me back 18 of it after I practically cried on the phone.

The people who run those companies are on a one way trip to hell.

7. I tend to get upset (at myself) when I do things like this
It is going to bother me all weekend and I will dwell on it, though there is nothing I can do now.

9. I hate when I do that.
I use the free Bank of America bill paying. Twice I've "paid" my credit card by recording it in my check book, only to forget to go online and execute the payment. Sometimes computers make things more complex, or at least easier to forget to pay bills!
:hi:

10. What I need is to sign up for their email reminder service
I think that would help. So many bills are due on the 1st that I sometimes can't keep track. And I even use Quicken to remind me.

12. Didn't know about the email reminder
I'll see if BOA has one. I use Quicken too, but I shut off the scheduler. Maybe I need to revisit that decision.

The late charge penalty has got to be a big money maker for the CC companies and the banks for checking accounts. It's such a huge penalty. But, I don't think we can look to our politicians to look out for us on this (or a lot of other things for that matter).

Thanks for the suggestion to use the bank's email reminder (guess they are looking out for us).
:)

13. Here is a possible solution - Be Proactive
Call the company and explain the oversight. Tell them you have been a good customer blah, blah, blah.

Then tell them that if they raise your interest rate you WILL close the account. You have other offers for lower interest rate cards and you WILL use one to pay off this cars.

Make sure the person you are speaking to put this in your record.

Worked for me, my 3.99% rate remained the same. They would have raised it to 20 something.
