1. Amazingly, perhaps
I've noticed that some do.
I bet they throw stuff at the screen when Dennis argues with King Arthur.

2. the biggest freeper-type i've ever known did
he loved python--was one of those watching flying circus on pbs in the mid-seventies. He was/is the most psychotically-conservative person I have ever known, but he was a huge python fan. (huge fan of dylan as well--go figure ...)

3. Ann Coulter digs the Dead, Mike Nelson of MST3K is very rightwing
I don't see how either of those could be sustainable, yet they are. Also people can be very considerate and kind in themselves, yet support completely inconsiderate and evil politicians and policies.

5. That one really hit me hard. :-(
I grew up with him and Joel on the Satellite of Love. Then I hear he refuses to read the Star Tribune and calls it the Red Star or the Star and Sickle, and I just wonder how someone so intelligent and funny could hold such utterly stupid political beliefs. At least they never showed in his work, from what I could see. In fact, burns on conservatives (and many on Ayn Rand) were much more prevalent--especially in It Conquered the World and Teenage Caveman. Those were Joel shows, but still--Nelson was head writer at the time.

6. I think Joel Hodgson had more creative control than Mike Nelson
that is the only explanation I can come up with.

8. oh, there are LOTS of digs at conservatives
I think Mike just understood the audience, and was willing to take shots at himself for the show. I appreciate it very much when someone can separate their own opinion and humor for a show like that.
