I had to leave work early today - migraine

I hate that - I NEVER leave early or call in sick. But I started getting very shaky, then my vision got blurry and I knew what was coming. I took one of my migraine pills as soon as I realized but it was already too late.

It's so hard to explain a migraine to someone who's never had one. After a three hour nap and something to eat, I feel better but now it's like I'm hungover. x(

1. My coworker gets them frequently

He gets a two-day migraine once every 4-6 weeks. He's usually out for a couple days when he's got them.

He could probably qualify for disability due to the frequency/severity of them, but like most people I know that qualify for disability (myself included) he'd rather work than sit around and do nothing.

3. I haven't had one in several months

I think what may have triggered it was that our wood stove chimney got blocked up yesterday and there was rather a lot of soot in the air when we cleaned it out. Or maybe not - sometimes I know what causes them but sometimes they just come out of nowhere.

2. My mom suffers from them regularly.

I remember as a kid having to bring her cold wash cloths for her head, keeping the lights off and having to be super quiet b/c she was hyper sensitive to all stimulation. It was rough.

They really are a full body trauma - not like any other kind of headache at all. Your mom has my sympathy - I've often thought I'd have a hard time recognizing if I had a stroke because I'd probably think it was a migraine coming on (per the post about strokes the other day, I was reciting my name, the date and my address as well as all other personal info I could think of on my drive home - LOL).

I was in that thread actually, or one like it. Ironic that I should follow it with a damn silly migraine. :grr:

Yeah, it's always nice to know you're not alone and to have other people who understand to talk to and to exchange ideas that have worked for you with. I'm definitely in if it happens. :thumbsup:

7. I had one last Sunday, those things are awful.

There were a couple of folks at work who got them within a couple of days of me, so I am inclined to think it may have something to do with weather.

I hate seeing those squiggly lines, and getting all numb, not being able to think straight, and getting sick to my stomach. It is a good thing that there is treatment for them now, though. When I was a kid, there was nothing. I would have to look for a cool, dark room and try to sleep.

10. I hate all that too

Sometimes I think the anticipation and the aura are worse than the headache. Until the headache hits.

The first time I got a migraine, I had everything BUT the headache. I was in my early 20's and I started getting the strange visual stuff. I was home alone with two small children and at first I thought it would pass - it didn't. It got worse and soon I was unable to see anything but the squiggles and I felt SO nauseous and strange.

I called my sister because I had her number memorized and had her call my doctor who called me back. He told me it sounded like a migraine but I never got the headache (my sister came over to be with me until the aura passed). I've gotten them ever since.

They never fail to kind of freak me out. Thanks for the good wishes - I do feel a lot better since I napped and ate. Just drained now.

14. I can sure understand that peaked feeling.

I think I was about 5 or 6 when I started getting them. I was playing hide-and-seek, and I remember looking out from under my dresser and seeing the lights. I couldn't even speak right to tell my mother I wanted to go to the doctor. Then they did all sorts of tests on me, an EEG and all, to see what the problem was. This was the mid 70's, and they were just starting to understand the headaches back then.

The thing I hate is that other people sometimes seem dismissive of what people go through with these migraines. They can truly be debilitating.

15. Maybe it's my strange brain

It looks to me like a cute little blue animal, with a tail off to the left, an eye somewhat centrally located and a smile in the lower right hand section (perhaps a river or inlet?). I notice it all the time - it makes me smile. :silly:

those are two rivers and the dot in the middle of the state indicates the state capitol, Hartford.
