I have a Myspace. Is that bad?

Talking to dad today, who has read a lot of bad things about Myspace.

Is it bad to have one? I just use mine for blogging. I don't have my real name or my location. I have a picture of myself up on there, though. (Friend did it.)

The mee-dya jumped all over MySpace because they need a villain. Five years ago or so, it was the same thing with AOL.

Just don't put too many revealing details on there, i.e school name, friend's names, etctera, and you should be fine. You might wanna sub out the pic for something else meaningful to you.

The problem isn't with MySpace, the problem is with pervs who use MySpace to stalk people -- thus, the need for caution. And with people who are too unsuspecting and meet up with people they barely know.

It's a good way to meet and talk to people. And it sounds like you are being careful - not giving out information that could get you hurt.

Your Dad just wants to know you're safe. That's a good thang. Just assure him you are careful and aware of any potential dangers.
