I think I finally landed a Job!!!!
Well, I had an amazing interview this morning for a store manager position and got a phone call from the company an hour after I got back home asking me to come in next Tues. for three hours and meet with the regional manager, look around the store and "see how it goes". So, it looks like I finally have a job again after almost a year (downsized from my last place of employment since Jan. 31)!!!

Even though it's retail work, hey! at least it's a job, and a management postion at that! So there's a pretty big part of me that's happy at the way things turned out.

About the only problem I can think of is that since this is a hobby store (comics, board games, D&D, that sort of thing...), any chance I ever had at getting a date with my unknown dreamgirl has gone out the window. I mean, c'mon, imagine the set-up...

I see her at a small dinner party in a sexy, strapless black get-up and I approach her, thinking I'm all suave and continental... maybe even a bit GQ and ask her how the night's going. She smiles at me and we exchange names and pleasantries. Then she asks me what I do. I arch an eyebrow and tell her I'm a manager at a small store. "Oh, really?" she asks. "What kind of store?" So I tell her, It's a Comic Book and Gaming Store". "Like that guy in The Simpson's?" she asks, trying hard to conceal the laughter. "Yes", I reply as I look for the nearest exit and the easiest way to get there.... ahhhh.... such is life I suppose.

I suppose it's better to pay the rent and eat food than it is to date Miss February. Anyway, I'm gonna keep tellin' myself that. :eyes:

3. Congrats
Hope you get the job and Miss Right won't mind that you manage a Comic Book/Gaming store, she'll probably think it's cool.

4. Then again...
maybe miss february hid from the judges her passion for collecting old richie rich ;-)

Congrats for the job. If it sounds interesting to you - take it (pays the bills) and learn from it what you can - I have found that each divergent path... later on seems to make sense for the long haul destination (in part, because we don't always know that that destination is in the short term.) Good luck!

10. "Every time I try to get out, they *pull* me back in..."
That's half the problem... I *do* know about The Gamers and the attached stigma (I don't know if was that, being in marching band or my acne in high school that caused me to go dateless nine out of ten weeks) 'cause I'd been one for so long. Dropped out of it about ten years ago, but as Pacino said in Godfather III

"Every time I try to get out, they *pull* me back in..."

But, all in all, I'm pretty happy!

7. A lot of women are into stuff like that
Don't worry about the supposed stigma that goes with your new store. More and more women are getting into those types of hobbies every year. If you enjoy the store and the things that are in it you just very well may find a peach of a girl there.

At any rate, good luck to you in that new job. It sounds like a lot of fun. :)

8. I've spent many happy hours
at comic book and hobby/craft stores.

I loved comics as a kid. They taught me to read.

9. There's lots of girls who are into those type of guys.
They're usually nerds too, but a lot of em are SEXY nerds.

Sounds like the type of job I'd like. I like any job where I don't have to take out messy garbage or any other custodial work. I've only had one job where I didn't have to do that, but that job was loading 40-pound boxes of hats out of semi trucks.

12. I'm married but
I like those kind of guys! I dated a comic book geek for 5 years and almost married him. And I'd consider myself a sexy nerd. Any woman who would be put off by that job probably wouldn't be that much fun anyway.

Congrats on your new job.

11. Ms. February has bad breath and B.O.
Ms. February and any job are probably not marrying material. I am happy for you - so happy. At least this is a landing pad that will lead you to someplace else.

I noticed the job listings are picking up quite a bit the last couple weeks in my area. My company went belly up 11 months ago and I'm still unemployed. I printed out so many possibilities this afternoon that I decided to order 100 more resume envelopes and 500 sheets of resume paper.

Maybe things are looking up??
