1. I'm grudgingly an iPod user.
I have a lot of complaints about iPods (namely simple features that it lacks), but I was able to get it $50 cheaper than other players because it's what my school's computer store sells.

2. What is it with ipods?
I did a lot of research before purchasing my mp3 player (Creative Zen) and user reviews, consumer reports, prices, online mp3 sites etc helped me decide not to get an ipod.

Just curious!

6. Good marketing, basically.
Like I said, the main reason I bought it was that I got it $50 cheaper.

WhichZen model did you get? The Vision:M looks really nice.

13. I love my creative zen
I have the Creative Zen Micro and I love it. I just did not want to buy into that "trendy" marketing and avoided it for that reason at first. When I priced my Zen it was about the same price as the ipods.

16. Yeah, the Vision:M is a little more expensive then the equivalent iPod
But it's quite nice, has more features and plays more types of video.

7. That would be a major step towards me not complaining about iPods.

5. Creative Zen
An older version actually, with a lot of room that's held up to quite a bit of abuse..(I'm rough on stuff)
My daughter sent it to me and because I liked it so well, she went and bought one of the newer vesions and is quite happy with it.

8. RCA Lyra.
It's nice, has a decent display, I can upgrade the memory, and it comes with better headphones than the iPod. Sure, the iPod has some slicker features, but my Lyra does just fine. My only complaint is that it takes AAA bateries, but as long as I keep one charged there's no problems.

9. I swear by my Sony
only complaint is their funky headsets which are somewhat lopsided.

But I like the idea of compressing the music even more so I can get more music on my 1gig netman.

Plus it has great FM reception.

But don't lay the thing down next to a smoker - they might think it's a cigerette lighter - it's about the same shape & size

10. A £10 Technika
It's a cheap piece of shit, but it serves my purposes well enough. I don't have many mp3 music files and can't be arsed to convert my CD collection, so I mainly use it to listen to podcasts, archived radio shows and comedy bootlegs.

11. I have a U2 iPod I got for Christmas in 2004.
It's been replaced twice, so I'm on my third. It broke 2 weeks ago and it's no longer under warantee. I learned the hard way: You should not run with an iPod. They're really not built for that. I bought a shuffle because they're better suited to that kind of activity....they run on Flash memory and have no moving parts (like the Nano too I believe).

I love iPods. Just don't take them on a run.

19. Because sometimes I put on songs/video that I don't like
or didn't want on or it doesn't work (ie. vid has no audio)

20. Iriver H10
20 GB. I like it pretty well, now that I have worked the kinks out. I use Windows Media Player (which has problems of its own) and Napster to Go. I also have a subscription to Emusic, where you get to KEEP the songs you download. I am not sure about Napster yet. I like the selection (although it isn't as good as Rhapsody fpr my kind of music but works better with the Iriver).

23. I love my iPod nano
2 gigs, just the right size for my purposes. And no, none of that "you just bought it to be trendy" bullshit. I bought it because A.) I'm already a Machead and B.) I tried someone else's and liked it.

Oh, and the people who complain about the "screen scratching too easily" are just morons who are incapable of caring for electronic equipment (sorry, had to get that off my chest :D)

24. 40 GB Creative Nomad Zen Xtra...
No bells or whistles no "exclusive content" to download, no Jpeg display, no NUTHIN 'cept days and days and days worth of my music (and hard to find recordings of early Mario Savio speaches). All with a consumer replacable battery powerful enough to get the job done. :)

...second hand.
I use it when jogging... it holds more songs than I can run to, so I guess it'll do for now!
