College Football Saturday: GO ARMY! SINK NAVY!!
Edited on Fri Dec-05-03 10:43 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
Yeah, I know -- Army is 0-12 while Navy is 7-4 (including a win over my Central Michigan University Chippewas). Still, a troop can hope, can't he? Anyhow, it's on CBS starting at 4pm EST tomorrow.

Losing twice to the Swabbos in the same season would really suck.

1. My school (I-AA North Dakota State) could beat Army.
Edited on Fri Dec-05-03 10:47 PM by northwest
And I mean BADLY. Political beliefs and beliefs about the military put completely aside, we would beat Army SOOOO bad if we played them. Army is not a good football team.

BUT, I've always cheered for Army to beat Navy my whole life, because I think the Army is more hard work for a soldier to go through than a sailor in the Navy. There's basically no risk of death involved in contemporary naval battle, for example. So with my biases firmly set, I'll be rooting for the Black Knights tomorrow.

2. The probelm is
that Cadets (and to a slightly lesser extent midshipmen) actually have to go to school, study and spend x amount of time on military training, while most "student-atheletes" they play against go to school to play football. Plus, there is a six year committment to serve once you graduate.

I'm missing the game for hte first time in years, since my dad (USMA class of 46) just got out of the hospital, so we'll be watching from home.

I can't decide if it is more approprite to say "go army, beat navy" or "next year in Jeruselum."

3. I suspect NDSU would take the Chippewas this year, too
Edited on Fri Dec-05-03 11:45 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
CMU (3-8) lost to Western Michigan --which officially makes it a crappy season. I don't mind losing to Navy nearly so much (except tomorrow).
And msanger, you tell your dad I appreciate his service and sincerely wish him a speedy recovery.
Sometime, I'll tell you about my friend Annie's father, who was one of the first dozen officers on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 and who had 70 or 80 percent of his men shot down around him.
I admire the self-sacrifice and dedication of academy men -- Navy or Army -- and look forward to the game each year, though I was a lowly private (well, private first class) and single-handedly shattered Beetle Bailey's record for worst soldier ever to receive an Honorable Discharge.
John
That's okay -- I'm also the worst basketball player in the world, too, except for my friend, Richard Cisneros.

5. Funny when I was in the Army we hated it so much we rooted for Navy
our Lt. (Westpoint grad) couldn't understand it for the life of him.

I think Navy is going to crush the Black Knights today unfortuneately.

6. Pull for Navy over Army? BLASPHEMY!!
Unfortunately, I think you're right about the game today.
Like I said, though, a troop can always hope.
John
I served as a REMF Signal Corpsman. We were only marginally Army, anyhow (like, we wore uniforms, collected a check and knew where the mess hall was).

marginally Army.

Not me I went (fell for) the whole kit and kaboodle-Cav Scout. Never fired or was fired upon in anger though.

8. Go Navy!
This is usually a throw-out-the-recods game, but not this year. My dad was in the Navy in WW2, he pulled for Navy, so I'm carrying on the tradition.
